The first time I did flowers for a wedding was for my sister in Merida in 2017. It was a small, sweet, and very fun party - full of panuchos (IYKYK), music, and laughter. On the morning of the wedding, I walked to the market - the one her husband affectionately calls Thunder-dome, and in bad - but Iā€™m really trying - Spanish - bought a few bundles of flowers. This is a picture from that morning. It didnā€™t take many blooms to add to the magic of the day. Thanks for letting me do your flowers sister šŸŒø

When thinking about the visual identity for The Secret Spot I knew I wanted something magical. Something romantic. To me flowers arenā€™t a commodity. Our shop isnā€™t amazon. Our flowers are grown in fields by farmers whose dogs we know by name. Thatā€™s magic to me. āœØ

Just like tucking a brilliant orange marigold into a ruffly bouquet of whites, I wanted our identity to be unexpected - I wanted it to feel like stumbling across a unicorn in a meadow or - as a friend put it - finding a pressed flower in a dog eared book. I wanted it to feel warm and friendly. Maybe a little nostalgic. I wanted it to feel special.

Hereā€™s a a smattering of the inspo imagery I gathered for the project. One of my favorites is illustrations of cavorting cherubs and fairies from Andy Warholā€™s 1956 book ā€œIn The Bottom of My Gardenā€ .

Iā€™m looking forward to sharing the work of the designers who took my gobligook of ideas and made it into a magical logo. I hope it makes you feel sweeping and romantic and sweet and special when you see itšŸ’—

This is a Michael appreciation post. Sorry Michael.

When we first moved to this property there was a run in shed in the field whose previous tenants were two chunky chestnut quarter horses and a mini donkey.

Since we donā€™t have any horses (though a girl can dream šŸ“) Michael transformed tne old run into something more useful - a green house. He salvaged the metal roof from the shed and used it as the roof for the duck coop - one of his many projects- and he picked up some old pallets and turned them into shelving. The cherry on top of this patchwork project is the pretty stained glass window that he installed for my 40th birthday.

There are so many aspects, efforts, and people that go into this business and Iā€™m so thankful for all of them. Youā€™re a good, giant double yolked, egg Michael šŸ„š

Iā€™ve been thinking a lot about hope this week.

On New Yearā€™s Day, I sowed several trays of seeds - bachelors buttons, salpiglosis, dianthus, even a couple of pots of nasturtium. Iā€™ve been starting seeds and planting out spring crops since November but as with any progress there are set backs along the way - losing young plants to frost, pests, or any other myriad of factors. After years of making mistakes, thereā€™s something comforting about moving forward - even if it means things look different than originally planned.

The seeds I planted on New Yearā€™s Day day wonā€™t germinate overnight - we will tend them for days and sometimes weeks before they emerge and then weā€™ll tend them for weeks until they can be placed in the field . Iā€™m not a religious person but this feels like an act of faith.

This time of year is dark - the sun sets at 5pm and the nights are long - but itā€™s also a hopeful time. Winter is when we work with the belief - the faith - that our effort will yield something good and beautiful. Thereā€™s something very comforting about that.

I hope wherever you are and however this year starts - you have hope. Hope in more beauty, kindness, and light. Knowing that what you do today can impact the future - and remembering, winter always gives way to spring.

Hi - Iā€™m Tey. My friends know that Iā€™m generally an overintroducer - having often introduced the same party again and again - just in case either forgot. But when it comes to myself and The Secret Spot, Iā€™ve found that Iā€™ve been a chronic underintroducer - so now itā€™s time to say hello and introduce both of us :)

The name ā€œThe Secret Spotā€ comes from a special place at our family farm in Pennsylvania - a childhood play spot tucked in the woods and fields. Itā€™s where, as kids, we spent hours exploring and telling stories around a campfire. My aunts and Abuelita made the farm a sanctuary for anyone who walked in the door and the memories from the farm have been a guiding force in everything that I do.

Just as that spot inspired me to dream, I hope that our farm and flowers inspire others to experience the beauty and wonder of nature.

Weā€™re committed to sustainability, sourcing seasonal flowers from local farms (including our own!) and crafting designs that are as thoughtful as they are beautiful.

As we move into our fifth growing season and a new year, weā€™re excited about your upcoming weddings and events as well as our plans to open a shop (in early 2025) offering flower deliveries, workshops, and curated gifts and treasures - everything to help you celebrate lifeā€™s big moments.

Iā€™m so grateful for all of the love and support from friends, family, couples and clients, and the local community of growers, creatives, and collaborators. Know that if youā€™ve ever bought a bouquet or admired our work, it made my dream come true āœØ

What does sustainability mean to us? What does it mean for you ?

The Secret Spot Flowers is a homegrown botanical studio devoted to cultivating joy, connection, and beauty through flowers.

We believe that beauty shouldnā€™t come at the expense of our planet.

Weā€™re proud to be an entirely foam-free studio using eco-friendly techniques to craft our designs. We recycle, compost, and repurpose flowers to reduce waste. By embracing seasonality and prioritizing sourcing local blooms, we aim to minimize our environmental footprint while bringing magic to your special event.
