💙 Client Feedback 💙

“I would 100% recommend your service to colleagues and approach you again myself about future events. The full service was flawless right from initial enquiry, quote, dealing with yourself, call days in advance to confirm details, staff who were present on the day – there is no part I can fault, everything was excellent.
Many thanks once again.”

Huge thanks to Heather for the feedback she left the team after Summer Family Fest with Armed Forces and Pipes in the Park 🫶🏼

Did you know we offer Bike Squad Paramedics as a service? 🚲

For the third year running, SAS’ bike squad will be deployed to support tourists and attendees to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The bike squad paramedics were first introduced for Glasgow’s COP26 in 2021 and have also covered a range of major events including Six Nations, Marathons, winter markets and the Queen’s funeral.

During last year’s Fringe festival, the bike squad treated the majority of patients on scene with a 55% non-conveyance to hospital. In addition to reducing hospital admissions and resources, another fundamental benefit of the bike squad is the reduction of our carbon footprint. ✅

Each bike has equipment to enable the paramedics to respond to life-threatening emergencies and they will be backed up by additional ambulance resources if needed.

If you think our bike squad could be a useful service at your upcoming event, please get in touch [email protected] 💌

The team at Royal Troon have had a great week so far providing medical support for The 152nd Open.

There’s been mixed conditions, mixed results, and a mixed leaderboard, but SAS remain “Ready for Anything” 😉

Today is International Paramedics Day, where we celebrate paramedics and first responders around the globe and the vital role they play. 🌍

"The Difference We Make" takes centre stage to highlight the profound impact paramedics make every single day around the world.
From emergencies to the quieter moments of care, paramedics embody a commitment to making a difference in whichever setting they work.

We would like to acknowledge the incredible work paramedics do and their dedication to instigate positive change within their workplaces, universities, medical centres, and communities. 💙

☀️ Summer Solstice ☀️

Today is the summer solstice, which marks the longest day of the year in the Southern Hemisphere.

It also marks the start of the busy season for SAS Events! We are looking forward to lots of outdoor events and we have everything crossed for a sunny Scottish summer 🤞🏼

As many of us welcome the warmer weather, it’s is worth noting that June 2023 was Scotland and the UK’s hottest on record, reaching highs of 30.7C in Dumfries and Galloway! 😰

✨ MEET THE TEAM ✨

Laura MacLeod- Business Support Coordinator for the NRRD Events Business Support Team

🔹 WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WORKING FOR THE SCOTTISH AMBULANCE SERVICE?

Working for the Scottish Ambulance Service has been an absolute delight since I joined in 2023. The support from management and the wider NRRD team has been invaluable, and I’ve learned so much about the organisation in a short space of time thanks to the communications and engagement efforts put in place across the department.
Working in events is so exciting. I love Scotland, and I love being part of some of the most major events taking place across the country. Being part of the SAS Events team means I get to be involved in everything from sporting events to music festivals and everything in between.

🔹 WHAT EVENT(S) HAVE YOU MOST ENJOYED BEING PART OF OR ARE MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS YEAR?

I really don’t think I can choose a favourite! I love the variety of events we get to work on and appreciate that no two days are the same. I think I learn something new with each project we take on, and getting to work with new teams across Scotland on a regular basis is always interesting.
I’m looking forward to attending more events in person going forward. I attended Kelpies10 last month and it was really rewarding to physically see the outcome of all the hard work put in by SAS and all the other outside organisations that were involved.

🔹 TELL US A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF OR ABOUT SOMETHING YOU ENJOY DOING IN YOUR SPARE TIME.

“Tell us a fun fact about yourself” has got to be one of my least favourite questions as it just highlights how boring I actually am 🤣
I did conquer Ben Nevis with my family, which I was pretty proud of considering it was my first Munro. It was foggy and raining so I couldn’t see a thing from the top, but it’s still nice to be able to say I’ve done it!
Spending time with family and friends is what I enjoy most, and you’ll rarely catch me without my dog, Leo!

✨ SWIFTIES ✨

This weekend marks the arrival of the most eagerly awaited event of 2024: Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour at Murrayfield 🎤✨
Our highly skilled, multi-disciplinary medical team will be on hand to ensure your safety.

Although the responsibility for ensuring security, health, and safety during an event rest with the organisers, there are steps you can take to guarantee your safety and enhance your enjoyment.

*TOP TIPS *

🔹 Be aware of your surroundings – identify your exit routes for the area you are in, don’t wait until an emergency to find them.
🔹 Stick with a group but plan for separation and have a meet up spot.
🔹 Think strategically about where to stand in the crowd.
🔹 If you are caught in a tight crowd, keep your arms in front of your body to create more distance between you and others around you to prevent injury.
🔹 Plan your visit! Take only your essentials, charge your phone, plan your route and wear comfortable footwear that helps reduce the chance of slipping and can help you navigate the crowds.
🔹 Stay hydrated – drink plenty of water before, during and after.

❗️Stay Crowdwise – Stay Safe. ❗️

As you may have seen on our stories, the Scottish Ambulance Service worked alongside St Andrew's First Aid a couple of weeks back, providing medical support to The Kelpies who celebrated their 10th anniversary with a day of family fun, followed by an evening of live entertainment 🤩

Here’s what Lynsey, Senior Events Officer for Falkirk Leisure and Culture, had to say about our services:
“Our event went really well and the support from your team was invaluable.
They were all amazing, very professional at all times and super helpful to all attendees.
It’s been a pleasure working with you all again.”

Pictured is our Events Business Support Coordinator, Laura, who stopped by to enjoy the festivities with her dog, Leo 🐕

✨ MEET THE TEAM ✨

Lisa Murdoch- Business Support Manager for the NRRD Events Business Support Team

🔹 WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WORKING FOR THE SCOTTISH AMBULANCE SERVICE?

Working in events within the service is both challenging and satisfying. The thing I enjoy the most is the variety of events that we get to work on and as no two events are the same, you constantly have to change your way of thinking in order to meet the needs of a new project. Since events can be held anywhere in the country, we frequently get to work with colleagues all over Scotland (what did we ever do without Teams!) so meeting and working with new people to achieve a common goal is interesting and rewarding.

🔹 WHAT EVENT(S) HAVE YOU MOST ENJOYED BEING PART OF OR ARE MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS YEAR?

Every event is unique and comes with it’s own set of challenges and rewards, however the event that I enjoyed working on the most in the last year was undoubtedly the Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Dundee. When you are there, you realise the enormity of putting on an event of that size and scale because of the number of people that are involved and to be just a small part of that was an amazing experience. The SAS team that we had working on the event were incredible and everyone went above and beyond to bring everything together making it a great success.

🔹 TELL US A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF OR ABOUT SOMETHING YOU ENJOY DOING IN YOUR SPARE TIME.

Fun fact – Billy Connolly has been to my Mum’s house for a cup of tea! Long story short, he was filming a movie in her street and most of the kids used to hang about outside the set. My brother at the time was a five-year-old ginger haired tear away and thought nothing of telling Billy it was his birthday and the long list of presents he was hoping for, so next thing Billy Conolly turned up on my Mum’s doorstep with a super soaker water gun and a signed birthday card from all the cast for him. The rest is history and Mum still has that super soaker in her garden shed some thirty plus years later!

Why choose SAS for your event? 🤔

We’re glad you asked!

The Scottish Ambulance Service Events team is a dedicated department that provides a single national point of contact for event organisers wishing to arrange commercial event medical cover.

We…

🔹 Reinvest funding from commercial activity to deliver front-line services in the Scottish Ambulance Service, including training for medical professionals.
🔹 Support the delivery of events across Scotland, in line with the universal declaration of human rights, including the right to life.
🔹 Minimise the impact of events on NHS Scotland business as usual activity.
🔹 Provide reliable and comprehensive event cover throughout Scotland in line with current legislation.
🔹 We have an extensive list of previous clients developed over a significant number of years. These range from local events, like football games, to national and international events, like the Commonwealth Games.

Our national coverage does not only extend to our own organisation, but also through our established relationships with Health Boards and Emergency Service partners we are able to review data and intelligence and adjust our plans in real time to mitigate against any potential and emerging risks.🚑

Event staff utilise the latest AACE Clinical Guidelines and both National and Local pathways to ensure that patients receive the Right Care, at the Right Time, and in the Right Place. We have agreed and established pathway across Scotland for both acute and chronic conditions, and can ensure that patients are directed into specialist pathways for specific emergency conditions (Major Trauma, Stroke, Cardiac, Paediatrics etc.) 🚨

We work hard to understand what your event is about, and for you ‘what success looks like’.
We are not ashamed to admit it… your success is our success. 🏆

If you would like further information, or have any event related enquiries, please send an email to [email protected] and one of our dedicated team members will get back to you asap.

Keep an eye on our social media channels to learn more about our team and what we’re getting up to this year! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
