As the days get longer, the shoots of the flowers start to wake up and before we know it is the British season of Flowers. Yes British flowers that are grown here and not flown in. This year Sauf Hall Flowers will be concentrating on Alstroemeria a flower that has a long vase life up to three weeks if kept conditioned. Conditioning where the stems of the flowers are trimmed and the water they stand in is changed about every three days. This helps to stop bacteria at the base of the stem and this extends the vase life of the flower. Dahlias will also be a focal flower, again a long lasting flower in the vase. These colourful flowers are a good display by themselves or mixed with some foliage. Other flowers will Rudbeckia, Peonies, Agapanthus, Cornflowers, Alliums.
At the end of the season there will Chrysanthemums another long lasting flower in the vase up to three weeks.

Been hard at work in the.potting shed today planting up in containers.As I still have alot to do outside and in the Poly. The containers I am in control of and at the moment a quicker result.

Its been a year since Sauf Hall Flowers was open for business. Our intention in 2024 to be open from the end of April. There is a lot to do the flower beds have overgrown with bulbs wanting to see the light of day. There are no annuals this year; but there will Alstroemeria, Dahlias, Alliums to start with.

For those who know me will be aware that my wife, friend and business partner Melanie passed away in September 2023 with Pancreatic Cancer, which was a shock to us when diagnosed with this disease in February 2023. Melanie loved her flowers and made wonderful arrangements which were greatly admired. With a couple of talks by us, how we started the flower farm, Melanie would give a demonstration adding humour and fun to the evening, with this in mind, I am prepared to give talks on Cancer, I am no expert, but maybe help those with Cancer or make people more aware. I would do this along side a talk on our flower farm and how we started. I am contactable through Sauf Hall Flowers or my mobile. ( There will be no charge for my talks as I feel it is something I want to share)

Also Flowers from the Farm will have its Annual open Weekend and I intend to open too.

Alstroemeria. These will be the last to pick for this year. Grown in the Poly they have done well, without any attention at all. A good cut flower for any vase.

As we hopefully start towards spring, we are busy getting those little jobs done before we start seed sowing and transplanting flowers into bigger pots ready for when the frost have gone. It is a year we are looking forward too with lmore flower beds in place and many seeds, seedling to sow and plant. Daffodils, tulips showing their tips now makes us feel warm with anticipation.
