“QUEERY stands for Q***r Unity, Environmental Education, and Recreation for Youth. QUEERY is a nature club for q***r and questioning middle and high school youth that will be meeting once a month to provide space for participants to learn outdoor skills, build community, and explore how q***rness shows up in the natural world.

Our first QUEERY meetup will take place on Saturday, October 12, in Northfield, MN, where we will discuss the program and make introductions, and then go for a walk to enjoy the fall colors and learn about a very q***r animal that's preparing for winter. Interested folks will need to complete the signup form to get the exact location for this event.”

Treasured performing artist Patrick Scully will present Portrait of the Artist as a Young Gay Man on Tuesday, October 1 at 6pm in Viking Theater at St. Olaf College! This program is co-sponsored by the Taylor Center for Equity and Inclusion, the program of Gender and Sexuality Studies, and Northfield Pride. We are thrilled to come together to kick off LGBT+ History Month and invite you to join us!

This performance is free and open to the public and complimentary hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be provided. Please note it is intended for adult audiences only. Please see the attached poster as well as more information about Patrick and his performance below. Spread the news with your classes and groups and bring your friends!

Patrick Scully has been a professional performer since 1976, and an independent performing artist since 1980. His performance at Dance Theater Workshop was included among the New York Times' "Best Performances of the Year" in 1992. His work as the director of Patrick's Cabaret was recognized in 1996 by a First Bank Sally Award for its vision, and by a 3M/United Arts Award for Excellence. In 1993 Skyway News inducted him into its arts registry for outstanding contributions to the Twin Cities Arts.

Patrick is a fiscal year 2024 recipient of an Arts Experiences grant and a fiscal year 2023 recipient of a Creative Support for Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Portrait of the Artist as a Young Gay Man represents the first work in Patrick Scully’s autobiographical series Somewhere Along the Rainbow. The play begins in Patrick’s high school in the 1960’s and takes us on a journey through his school, college years, and into his early professional life in the arts.

This first work ends in 1980, having traversed the ups and downs of Patrick’s coming out story, his redirecting his studies from medical school to dance, and eventually founding a dance company as well as Patrick’s charting the victories and defeats of LGBTQ+ individuals, not only in Minneapolis/St. Paul but across the country.
