As a wedding planner, I have seen my share of wedding ceremonies. Watching a couple exchange their vows and share their first kiss can be the most meaningful part of the day.
Below are some tips for making sure you have a smooth wedding ceremony.
1. Clearly communicate reserved seating ahead of time
I have seen on more than one occasion the front 2 rows empty because family members (outside of the processional) were unsure where to sit. Also keep in mind aisle seating for readers to they can easily get out to speak.
2. Determine the side of the bride and groom
The traditional side for the bride to stand on is the left with the groom on the right. However, Jewish ceremonies flip the sides. I also have brides that prefer one side for photos. Also talk about if you want your family seated on the same side as you or if you want them on the opposite side so they are looking directly at you as opposed to your back.
3. Have everyone take their seats
After the bride has made her way down the aisle and joined the groom at the altar, make sure the officiant tells all the guests to take their seats. It seems pretty straight forward but you would be surprised how often guests keep standing without instructions telling them to be seated. It also helps for photos if all the guests are not standing for the entire ceremony.
4. Make sure the officiant steps out of the way for the first kiss
Be sure to give the officiant a moment to step out of the way before the kiss. No one wants the gorgeous first kiss shot ruined by the officiants head behind them.
5. Practice the dip beforehand
If you are planning to do a dip during the recessional, please practice it ahead of time. Make sure you know which way you are dipping and what you are doing with your bouquet.
I recommend that you save this post for later when you are finalizing all your ceremony details.
