We believe that our “Voices From Freetown Around Climate Change” are a critical addition to the Countdown initiative to champion and accelerate solutions to the climate crisis and turning ideas into action in the African context.

The goal of the event was to offer new solutions and local perspectives on climate change, and to inspire Freetonians to take more environmentally friendly action.

During the live event, we hosted over 100 Freetonians including students and climate activists, development partners, policy makers and informal settlements dwellers from all corners of Freetown. Our live stream on YouTube reached more than 300 people.

Chef Zi is asking for support but also knows that sometimes people need to know “what’s in it for me”. As an incentive to support the crowdfunding campaign there are various “perks” one can get for donating. Everything from Goodie bags filled with Chef Zi’s delectable spice and herbal blends to dinners and tasting opportunities and even all inclusive getaways for those who are very generous.

We had an opportunity to do a multi-course tasting with Chef Zi that was absolutely magical. Feast your eyes and tantalize your taste buds with some of the footage from that dinner and use that as motivation to open your hearts and wallets to support .fromafrica. The Crowdfunding link is in the bio.

We had the opportunity to produce this video as a labor of love for Chef Zi to share his journey and to appeal for support in bringing his African-Mexican love child to the world. We all know that in our community it takes a village and so I’m asking our village to wrap around .fromafrica and support him in making his American Dream a reality. The crowdfunding link is in the bio.

I’m so honored to have directed this short film, “Wata Na Life” for and , on the phenomenal Sierra Leonean photographer and illustrator . Ngadi’s photo documentary was an exploration of water access and sanitation in Sierra Leone and the unfortunate role that climate change is playing on water access in both urban and rural communities.

For many that don’t know, Sierra Leone is the third most affected country by climate change. Going to the villages and hearing the voices of people you don’t often hear in the climate debate was truly eye opening. We need many more Sierra Leonean voices as part of the climate conversation and I urge many of you to start engaging in these conversations with your families, neighbors, and your local and national government.

I’m incredibly grateful to Ngadi, the WaterAid team, The British Journal of Photography and most importantly my crew and for entrusting this film in my hands as well as supporting me as we put together this labor of love✨

PS. The designer is multi-talented and even produced the song used for the soundtrack of this video.
