I’m Etya - the face behind the flowers!
I’m so glad you stopped by to join me on my floral journey. On this page I share floral tips and tricks and offer thoughtfully designed florals for your events and special occasions. Did I mention we offer floral workshops too? It’s a fun, interactive, hands on experience where you get to create your own arrangements while learning different floral techniques and tips.

For all of you who are new to my page let me introduce myself with a couple fun facts:

1.I’m originally from Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦
2.My favorite food is rice - nope I’m not kidding 🍚
3.I have 2 names Etya and Rochel -(a couple people where confused who Etya was because in 5th grade I started going by just Rochel. Being that I love my first name, when starting my business I reintroduced Etya - that’s my name story. Don’t worry, I respond to both names.)

I look forward to getting to know you and always love hearing all your flower questions!

Before we get to any of the flower fun there’s a whole lot that goes into every arrangement.
We start off with an idea 💡 either from the client or myself, then I design, and create flower recipes.
So where does waking up at 4am come in?! A couple of days before the event, after placing orders with our suppliers we then collect all of our flower goodies, early in the am from the flower market🌸
You’d think at this point probably comes the fun part-nope😂
There’s one more thing that comes before the arranging. CONDITIONING-removing the foliage that’s not needed, removing thorns, hydrating the flowers and placing them in the cooler. It’s a very important step for keeping the flowers hydrated, open up fully, and happy✨
Finally we get to the arranging stage by far my favourite part, where we make the magic happen, and your event elevated🙌🏻

Did you know that fresh flowers are sourced from all over the world, not just locally?!

Every flower has a season that it grows best. Since we can’t grow all flowers locally some of the countries we get our flowers from are Ecuador, Israel, Italy, France, Amsterdam, Nigeria and so many more.

No matter where you buy your flowers they most probably travelled a while, before they got to you!

Water yes water. Your flowers live off of water.
3 important points to remember before placing your flowers in water;
💧make sure there is no foliage in the water is on the stems that are in the water. Foliage sitting in the water can cause bacteria to grow and then cause the flowers to wilt.
💧clean clean vase. What’s in your vase is what goes to your flowers. We don’t want anything aside from fresh water(and if you’d like to add flower food)
💧remove flowers that are wilted. All blooms have a different life span. It is normal to have some flowers wilt before others.Change the water, give the blooms that still look fresh a snip and enjoy them for as long as they last.
💧change the water every 2-3 days. The more of the the better!

Pic 1 is when my roses just came, foliage removed and placed in the water. Pic 2 is the same rose, but it was properly conditioned and hydrated! Crazy, no?

Now that it’s winter (in NYC) before finding the perfect place for your flowers, how’s the temperature in the room? Is there a heater blowing directly on the flowers? Flowers don’t like too much heat. Heat will dry out the petals even if there may be water in the vase (with the exception of tropical blooms). So find that cool spot in your home to maximize their longevity and your enjoyment ✨

Why cut your stems on a angle? What’s the point?

If you’re a visual learner swipe to see in the next photo.

It’s recommended to cut flowers on an angle vs straight so that there is more surface of the stem in contact with the water which means in simple terms the flowers drink more water, which gives the flowers a longer vase life.
There are a couple more things that contribute to longer vase life, more tips coming up in future posts✌🏻

🌸Make the most out of any floral arrangements you have at home! Here’s how;

✨Before throwing away your arrangement check if there are any flowers that still look fresh (not wilted or with many brown spots)
✨fill up a small bud vase with fresh, clean water
✨give your stems a trim and remove any greens or foliage from the bottom of the stem that will go in the water
✨place your fresh looking blooms in the bud vase, and enjoy your blooms for as long as they last!
