"Neighbors! It is with a resounding tear filled roar that we announce the passing of our Saint and Warrior Mrs. Mary Louise Palmer! She was more than our Education Chair and Advocate, she is our steadfast example of what we should do and how we should righteously stand up for our communities and our youth. She served in many leadership positions surrounding her engagement with our communities educational system, from PTAs, to NPU-H Adamsville West Atlanta Educational Chair, to NPU I Leader, and more! Her children are Benjamin E. Mays Raiders Alumni and graduates, and they are also West Atlanta Community members, too. We send our love and condolences to the Palmer Family: Mr. Acey Palmer Sr., and children Terika Palmer Fasakin [classmate to our Vice Chair Khalifa S Lee of B.E. Mays High Raiders Class of 2004], Angela L Palmer, and Acey Palmer Jr. We thank you all for allowing us to have her for the time we could, and being her every day reminder as to why it is important for us to advocate for our youth and their right to having a great Public School Education, with leaders who will protect them at all times. We will certainly miss your presence and will do our best to continue to step up to your vision, your legacy! Thank you, Mrs. Mary Louise Palmer - Rest in Peace and Power!
**The Family Ask: In lieu of Calls and Flowers, please go to www.marypalmerlegacy.com - leave your Messages there and send Donations to the Southwest Atlanta Foundation, Inc. with more details on their site." ~ NPU H Exec Board

Atlanta has a new statue honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Located in the Rodney Cook Sr. Peace Park, the statue was inspired by Dr. King’s “I Have Been to the Mountaintop” speech. It stands as a reminder of Dr. King’s message of peace and justice.

This week marks the 55th anniversary of Dr. King’s untimely death. He lived a mere 39 years yet left one of the greatest legacies of all time. We celebrate and remember his life and legacy.

It has been quite the close of my bEarthday. Thankh You For The Wishes.
Condolences to all of those who has experienced losses recently. I join this listing with many more to the ancestral call. 4 Greats!
1) Mrs. Griggs - Jackson - Our community mama. Always on cool, and gone make sure you full. I'll miss our conversations and check-ins, and reminders that I am always welcome to come by and say "hello", as I was usually always on the run. Even when I couldn't eat the food she prepared, she made sure I left with something for somebody in my house. Truly will be a flare missing in the community, and I am keeping my promise, your/my family are good.
2) Big Mike / Coach Jennings - Our community coach. Mays High & SWATS Baseball Community, We have lost one of our biggest advocates. Much love to him and his family for all the work he has done in building and expanding the game of baseball in our community. Not to mention, The good brother was our biggest advocate with Benjamin E. Mays Raiders Alumni Mays Alumni Association and our developing work with Alumni and Students. Brutha played no games and always kept his word - without him there would not have been a Mays Alumni Tailgate.
3) Khalil Phillips - My brutha. My fellow KHALI bearer. My fellow darkskin brutha. My fellow track mate (for that stint of time) and gloriously watch him sail to gold. Always ready for a good laugh, and always ready to help when he could. I caught him with the peddlers once and we caught up. I appreciate that others got to share in your glorious light - as we were separated we could keep up as -- We are the one of few with our names in these similar communities, and its always good love when your name comes. Thank you Dope Pedalers for light on our brutha! B.E. Mays High Raiders Class of 2004
4) Rev. Dr. Helen Johnson - My matriarch, My Granny, my pastor, my spiritual seer, my rebel. Most that sat with me to catch a clip of my story know that I grew up in the church, literally. I also grew up in a store. She was the first major entrepreneur I would meet and see the possibilities of where we can take ourselves when we apply ourselves. She also was my living example of what happens when you give your all and you receive little to less back. She mothered many in Vine CIty controlling an entire corner at the top of Magnolia and Griffin where she watched nearly 60 years of ATL skyline change. She partied with the best of em of her time in her restaurant/bar. She planned with the powerful and righteous for the changes of Atlanta that we have today. From SNCC to Black Police Officers to Black Folks in the Senate to Black Folks being able to sell liquor/have bars to being one of if not the first black female pastors and reverends in Atlanta, Georgia to fighting against the first GA Dome being built. All any one could do was listen to her loud roar and louder laugh. I lost her on the day of the year she was born on the weekend of my bEarthday. [Her story shall be continued on another posts] If You Would Like To Donate To Her Funeral, Please call Willie Watkins Funeral Home 4047581731, ask for the Accounting Office, and give to the Rev. Dr. Helen Johnson Funeral.

I did a thing this week. And got some featured work via Virginia-Highland Church. UVA Black Alumni might think of it as Sustained Dialogue at UVa discussions elder adult style.😄 At Equitable Dinners Atlanta, it was a good challenge to sit at the table with groups of people literally from all over the city and states. During dinner we discussed the challenges of our country's historical social dynamics under a colonialists hive mind, while having a core engagement to the City of Atlanta Government future works in uplifting a cause for the Atlanta Massacre of 1906. It has been voted, we all agree it should be changed from "Riot" to "Massacre"! 🥰. I will be doing more of these dinners, and following up with my self directed action that we discussed as take away's for self - mine was to get engaged. Read the details and see the pictures below - some of my featured shots as Eye of Khalifa, as I eat in another one of my historical Atlanta Communities, across from my old Middle School no doubt!
