We acknowledge their ownership of this land and pay our respects to the elders; past, present and future. The music: Our playlist is based (loosely) on the work of Gabrielle Roth’s 5Rhythms movement meditation practice. You can read about it on the internet https://www.5rhythms.com/
There will be a lot of music you may not have heard before and some you may re
cognise, from various genres including down tempo, deep house, dubstep, drum n bass, techno, trance, jazz-funk, world music and experimental. The music set is designed to get you moving by warming you up slowly and then building up to a crescendo, before cooling and calming you right back down again towards the end. There are a few guidelines that we follow:
We don't talk on the dance floor. This is essential to ensure that everyone can focus on being fully immersed in their own little dance bubble (as you would in the comfort of your own lounge room). We do encourage expressive noises such as clapping, whooping and/or laughing. We respect each other’s space and are mindful of others’ physical presence. You may want to interact with others in dance; if you do want to dance with someone, seek consent by using non-verbal communication, make your connection, dance together and then move on. If you get tired, feel free to pop outside and have a rest, a drink, a snack and/or a chat with others but please make sure you are QUIET when entering the dance space again. We dont wear shoes, but you can wear socks. Some people like to sit, lie, or roll around on the floor, so we want to keep the floor nice and clean. Also its quieter without shoes. The event is alcohol and smoke-free.
