This year we are pledging to find our sweet spot, to make waves in our own pond minus the constant push of our industry. We are in full swing!

The holidays remain one of our favorite times of year. From the twinkling decorations to wonderful retreats spent planning for next year’s amazing calendar; it is truly wonderful.

This year we decided to close out 2023 on a high note with two irresistibly gorgeous weddings with some of our favorite industry friends. And we can’t wait to show you everything we’ve dreamed up!

Last month we got the keys to our studio space and to say it has been a surreal experience might even be an understatement.

What started out as an endeavor simply to do what I love has become a dream I wish to keep dreaming. As I enter into our 5th year as Pink and Paisley and offering wedding florals, we will now be pivoting to expand our offerings and refine our client experience.

As with all things new, my nerves always kick in as a defense but the surety I have in myself and my team puts me at ease like nothing else.

These gorgeous color palettes continue to make a splash, in such a good way. And we love them even more when our couples trust us with curating their color palettes around their wedding flowers.

Creating cohesive and equally gorgeous designs takes forethought and planning…

For us once we know our base color palette we go through our floral favorites, starting to build out those defining blooms and complementary colors to enhance the overall palette.

After we select our structural blooms, we choose our texture florals. These are those extra special bits that take you from pretty to gorgeous, just like the delicate touch of lace on the bodice of a bridal gown. And we love seeing it all come together!

So lately, I have been playing with the idea of expanding my business. And as a firm believer in diving timing, my gorgeous flower friend moved to Atlanta and I saw the vision wholly with her taking Pink and Paisley into it’s next chapter.

I have been doing a lot more reflecting this week and one thing that remains constant is the reminder to give grace. So often we get consumed with our need to finish things and move ahead. And we find ourselves feeling lack luster after the “rush” has passed.

I find this especially with being a business owner and a mother and a wife. I operate on limited time; so I over stand the importance of a simple minute.

But it is more important to exercise patience and actually remember to enjoy the journey. I have committed that to practice. I speak slower, I communicate more effectively, I make space for those who enter my world to digest and process while being available to assist them; if needed.

Life feels so much better this way. And I think it feels much more inviting and authentic to operate from a place of grace.

As I curl up next to my oldest daughter to hold her as she sleeps, I realize in this moment that I will miss her like this. Sleepy, holding tight to me because the thunder scares her but she doesn’t want me to be afraid, wondering if I will stay the entire night because I need to rest.

Memories rush through me and a lump forms in my throat as I try not to cry. (Moms have mastered the silent cry.) Everything I have done in my most quiet moments, every business plan, every fail forward, every idea—all for her. So I could be the hero in her story…

Little does she know that as she wraps her 5 yr old hand around my shoulders to hold me tight, that she is the hero in mine.

Taking today slow. It seems so type of sickness has decided to plague our house after months of being “well”. Many of you don’t know this but for a while I suffered with chronic sickness and while pregnant endured a multitude of complications, some of which have altered my body forever and left me with pain. I will never make excuses for showing up and doing my job. I have worked in pain, sick and without relief. Even though I haven’t been in this industry for decades my body has paid it’s dues.

So today, we rest. Today, I have to lay in bed and nurse myself back to health. Today, I say silent prayers for my children to be well and do my best to heal myself so I can be present for them. These gifts, this job, has never been for me, it has always been for them. My legacy—a mother who overcame, who endured, who showed strength and determination in the face of adversity. Even when her body betrayed her; she did, because she loved us.

Be well my friends. Rest today if you need it.

In all seriousness, your florist is an engineer, a mathematician, an administrative wiz, and an artist all rolled into one. We thrive in the most chaotic of situations and we can pivot into another role at the drop of a dime.

But secretly, and not so obviously we are regular folks (with a family for some like myself) that crave real connections, peace and a whole lot of quiet at the end of the busy wedding week/end.

Instagram is full of florist with pretty pictures. But pretty pictures won’t do it on your wedding day. And skill is only part of the equation!

The other part rest on grit, effective and clear communication, honesty, perseverance in the face of adversity and reliability. Long story short, character.
