2024 Photo of the Year Contest

All photos and children were precious!

Thanks to all who brought their children out to see Santa Klaus or had me over in your homes. I’ve really enjoyed seeing photos that have come through as text messages, Facebook posts, emails, mail, As a way to express my gratitude and to increase the reach of my social media presence, I’m announcing the 2024 Photo of the Year Contest. A small jury will look over all the submissions, both professional and amateur photographers, and we will narrow the field to no more than 20. Followers of my page can vote by liking a photo: 1 point for liking and 1 points for one comment (on Facebook or my blog) that explains the like. The voting stays open for two weeks. The winning family gets a free home visit from Santa in 2025, date and time pending.

Look for the photo that best shows the qualities of a good visit with Santa.

The narrowed field of photos 1-10 are shown below. 11 on are in a separate post because 10 is the max photos. Happy New Year!

Now that your Christmas 2024 is transferring into your long term memory, I’m announcing a grand finish to my season. Soon I’ll be posting the 2024 “Iconic Photo Contest.” Which photo best captures Christmas 2024? I already have some favorites, but now is your chance to add some additional nominations.

I’ll form a small jury to narrow down 10-20 photos that capture the best qualities of Santa Klaus and children’s joy. The photos can be drawn from both pro and candid photos taken by families during home visits. The “winning” family gets a free home visit in 2025, time and date subject to availability.

Nominations are open! Post as a comment below. Again, the jury will help me narrow down the field to 20 or fewer. Then the nominations will be put to a vote on Facebook.

Tygart Valley Santa Klaus evolved in 2024. It started back in 2020 with me putting down my Covid stimulus check and a credit card to purchase a custom wool suit, leather belt, hat and boots. Since then I’ve added custom boots, antique sleigh bells, one unusually large brass bell and a bespoke vest. The original plan had me doing home visits, selling my services through word of mouth and sending out postcards as a gesture of goodwill....

By the time you read this, I will have dashed away to the back of beyond. If I could make Santa last the entire year, I would. Alas, my role lasts for mere weeks. Let’s all work together to keep children’s imaginations full of excitement and anticipation.

Thanks for allowing me a moment with your children. All of them are precious, unique creations of you and our Lord.

Strike while the iron is hot! After four years, the plans for my small business have born fruit. Thanks to all new followers and the families who were with me when I was learning the part. I sense it’s time to take another step. I’m seeking photographers and larger events along the I-79 corridor for a few choice openings in November and December: Charleston, Morgantown, Washington PA, and Pittsburgh.
