Isn’t it wild that the craziest thing could be happening, like paratroopers gracefully floating down into Lane stadium, and people can’t help but lift up their phone and look through its lens? Maybe it’s to look back on the memory later. Maybe it’s to prove to their friends that they really saw it. Maybe it’s to post for everyone to see and hopefully get enough likes to bring some temporary gratification. Whatever it is, we’re still stuck looking through our phones and struggle to be in a moment. This isn’t to bash anyone taking photos of a memorable moment, because I was in fact doing the exact same thing. I just wonder why we don’t look with our eyes and be present. Are we afraid to forget a special moment? Are we afraid of people not believing what we really saw?

So many times in the Bible when Jesus heals someone and they go tell everyone what he had done for them. Some people surely believe it, and others say “I need to go see for myself” and seek Jesus out. What kind of authority must he have, that even the unsure seek him out? Even the tax collectors and sinners want to be with him. Even the Pharisees and Sadducees want to ask him questions. Even the blind and sick want to just touch his robe in hopes of being healed.

There’s a line in a Gable Price and Friends song that says “if you walked into my home, and made your glory known, would my tears soak your feet, or would I crucify you?” And I have a similar question. If Jesus walked into my home and made his glory known, would I pull my phone and take a picture, or would I sit at his feet?
