In my experience, wedding toasts can majorly derail the timeline for your event, potentially creating cranky guests. Which is why I always offer my clients the option to provide my dos/don’t with the people they chose for this special task…here are a few of my faves:

• IT👏🏻IS👏🏻A👏🏻TOAST 👏🏻NOT👏🏻A👏🏻SPEECH: keep it short and sweet, and focused on the couple. Toasts should be heartfelt, but that doesn’t mean your remarks need to be more than 1-2 minutes

• Take your time to thoughtfully plan out your toast - share your hopes for the future couple, a sweet story about how they met, or what you admire most about them (keep those spring break stories to yourself🫣)

• Be sure to practice it in advance, and have it written down (notecards > phone) to reference when it’s show time

• Don’t forget to have a glass (of anything) nearby so you can join in on that closing CHEERS🥂

• Prepare for thunderous applause and happy tears 🥹 👏🏻

So, just in case you need them, here are a few reasons why hiring a wedding planner should be first up on your to-do list:

Happy Thanksgiving friends! Today, and every day, I wish for your table and your heart to be f u l l of love! 🤍

As this year is winding down, I’m reflecting on how much has changed for me in such a short time - it’s easy to compare yourself and think I should be doing more, but when I actually stopped and talked through everything I’ve been able to achieve in the past two years, I’m really freaking proud of myself! So first I’d like to thank me 😆j/k

But seriously, thank you for being here, for liking my posts or sharing your comments or telling your friends to follow me. It’s actually a big deal.

Thank you to my couples - past, present and future - for embracing me and putting your trust in me! I love that I can consider you a friend.

Thank you to the other planners I have connected with who so graciously share their time and experience, and constantly inspire me!

Thank you to all the amazing vendors I’ve met and worked with - florists, photographers, videographers, DJs, stationers, MUAs, rental companies, bakers, etc, your creativity and collaboration are unmatched!

Rather than do a major flip of the venue, from ceremony to the reception, we opted to set the space for the reception and invite guests to watch the ceremony from their tables. We upgraded the linens by choosing a soft autumn palette and different textures. We incorporated lots of candles to make it feel cozy and romantic, and the long tables created a natural “isle.” The low key flip we did do, was to position the sweetheart table and wedding cake in the ceremony spot. It was much less disruptive during cocktails, and allowed Betty and Bob to be surrounded by their guests for dinner and the rest of the party!

I can’t shut it off (ask everyone who’s ever met me). What some may call “bossy” or “type-A” or “people-pleasing”, I pronounce it as “confident” and “detailed” and “passionate.” So…you’re welcome! ✨

I started SK Events after spending 16+ years in the non-profit industry as a development/fundraising professional. Once I had my son, my priorities changed, and I knew I had to find a way to put my family first while still doing something I loved. So two years ago, I took a chance, left my safe career, and started carving out a space for myself in the Pittsburgh wedding world! In typical big sister fashion, I prefer to do everything myself, so I’m THE planner here. (Although I do have amazing assistants for event days!)

My goal is to expertly guide you through the entire planning process so that you can get back to living life. My experience guarantees that your wedding day will be as stunning, as it is seamless, for you and your guests. It’s like having a built-in big sis! 🥰

This topic absolutely triggers me because I’ve seen so many couples rely solely on their venue coordinator only to be left disappointed. When in reality, the venue coordinator was expected to do wayyyy more than the scope of their job, so here’s a quick rundown…

A venue coordinator works for the VENUE - think of it as a company representative. They ensure that your event is executed according to their contract, they oversee the venue staff, assisting with your room layout and ensuring that food and beverage is served accordingly. Often times the venue coordinator leaves after dinner, so they are not responsible for cueing the DJ or making sure your personal details get set up.

A wedding planner works for YOU and is your main advocate throughout the entire planning process and event day. We provide design, help to source vendors, develop your timelines, coordinate with all of your vendors, and review every contract. We oversee all logistics including set up and clean up of your personal details. We’re with you every step of the way - we have an extra lipstick if you can’t find yours and we get the makeup out of your bridesmaid’s dress. We find the missing cards, make boxes of cookies for you so you don’t miss out, and we’ll help Aunt Kathy to her car.

BOTH of these jobs are crucial to the success of your wedding day and we lean on each other to give you the best day possible! It’s all about the teamwork babe! 🤍✨
