I thought I’d do a little Throwback Thursday post from 1991 when I was part of a little flower company with my school friends who sold flowers to the school community… Whilst I never pursued floristry back then, my love of flowers never died…
In my early/mid 20s, I decided to study teaching, but as I was already working full-time with a mortgage etc, I decided to study part-time via correspondence while continuing to work full-time. It took almost 10 years of blood, sweat and tears, but I feel so fortunate that I had the opportunity to fulfill that dream through online learning. Then a couple of years ago, I decided to dive into the world of floristry for no other reason than to make myself happy. I may have taken the long way around, but I have come full circle back to running a floristry business over 30 years later…
When I talk with my parents generation, it was not only unusual to change career paths back then, but often people stayed in the same job their entire working lives, and there certainly weren’t the opportunities back then that we have now. I still can’t get my head around the fact that a woman’s wage wasn’t even considered when applying for a home loan 🤯
As the Year 12s are smack bang in the middle of exams, It’s made me reflect how fortunate we are today to have so many opportunities to chase our dreams, at whatever age that may be.
All the best to those who are taking exams and finishing their courses, and in the wise words of Dr Seuss
“You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
in any direction you choose.” 💞
