I've learned that a man I long admired and have the utmost respect for passed away Monday, June 10. Phil Mitchell, a retired school principal and pastor, gave me my first big break when I started DJing back in the mid 1980s. He hired me to do nine "sock hops" per school year in the old Milroy school gym, which helped launch my fledgling business. I later worked with Phil on a couple of Rush County Player productions and found him to be honest, kind and always firm but fair. Phil was something of a legend in the Milroy community, and for all the right reasons. He was a positive influence on thousands of lives over the years and I'm saddened by his passing. I'm sure he's now in a better place, but also know he will be dearly missed by many. Godspeed, Mr. Mitchell. Rest in peace; your work here is done.
