The next BUMMM! Jam session will be very special because it will be the last date! This does not make us sad but very happy to see the journey we have made with you since the first date in May. 🤩

Thank you very much!! We have enjoyed every night with the audience and the fantastic musicians that have been part of it so far. We invite all of you to share with us again.🙌🏻🙌🏽

MEET THE ARTIST 👉 Mariá Portugal

The Brazilian drummer, singer, composer and producer Mariá Portugal has been active in the São Paulo music scene for more than 20 years.

She recorded, performed and toured throughout South America, Europe, Asia and Oceania with artists such as Elza Soares, Metá Metá, Quartabê, Maggie Nicols and Joëlle Leandre. As a composer, she has been performing and composing original music for dance, theatre and cinema.

She is now based in Cologne (Germany). Since 2021 she is one of the curators of the Soundtrips-NRW free improvisation program.

MEET THE ARTIST 👉🏼 Korhan Erel

Korhan Erel is an electronic musician, improviser, composer and sound artist based in Berlin. Korhan’s music covers free improvisation, conceptual sound performances as well as structured and composed pieces, music for contemporary dance, theater and video art.

Erel performs solo, duo and group performances with improvisers, jazz musicians, dancers, in ensembles and orchestras. Erel has shown several sound installations in art spaces in Germany, Hong Kong and Turkey.

Erel has ten CD and several digital releases and has played concerts across Europe, Middle- East, Southeast Asia and North America.

Current projects and bands include The Liz (with Liz Allbee and Liz Kosack), Ephemeral Fragments (with Florian Walter and Emily Wittbrodt), Nervous Entanglement (with Malte Jehmlich), Serene (with Laia Genc), Lettow Erel (with Gunnar Lettow).

MEET THE ARTIST 👉🏾 Clémence Manachère

Starting at age 10 she learned to play classical piano for 8 years at the Pau Conservatory of Music. At 16 she bought her first flute and began to learn the instrument as an autodidact.

She studied architecture in France and Mexico City. During her final year at the architecture school of Paris-Belleville, she took lessons with saxophonist and flutist Guillaume Naturel. From Paris she traveled to Brazil and since then decided to dedicate herself fully to music. In Rio de Janeiro she played in the Orchestra da Escola Portátil de Chorro and in the Orquestra da Pro Arte where she participated in a project with João Bosco.

Back in Europe she studied jazz flute at the music school Berlin-Neukölln and since October 2017 she has added the soprano saxophone studying at Hamburg’s Hochschule with Fiete Felsch and Gabriel Coburger. She also took rhythm and drums classes with Mark Nauseef for two years.

She launched in 2018 her project „Clémence Manachère Unterwasser“ with which she has already recorded two albums under the label Cattitude Records, released in February 2020 and May 2022.

Clémence has received the „Mixed Generations“ grant from the Feldtmann Foundation and the Jazz Federation Hamburg for a tour with „Unterwasser“ and the Norwegian trombone player Helge Sunde at the end of April 2022.

It's been a week since we met up for the fourth BUMMM! Jam Session and we're still freaking out with the memories of a (very hot 😅) summer night full of music, great guests, fantastic audience and good vibes.🙌🏽

Thank you very much Florencia Peralta (.peralta) for the great photos of the evening. We are very happy to remember those moments again through these images!

We want to continue sharing with you this wonderful experience that brings together musicians and improvisers in a great place like Rotbart, where every time we can enjoy a relaxed and very cool atmosphere. Many thanks to the crew!!🙏🏾

MEET THE ARTIST 👉🏾 Rieko Okuda

Pianist and composer from Japan. She began to play classical music at the age of 3. She studied Music Therapy at Doshisha Women College. After graduated, she moved to the USA to study jazz music. She performed in the USA with some of the great american jazz musicians (Bob Mintzer, Jon Faddis, John Fedchock) at several jazz festivals such as North Texas and Nortredam Jazz Festival to name a few.

Later, she got interested in free jazz and improvised music while she was in Philadelphia. She performed with the great improvisers Marshall Allen (from San Ra Orchestra), Elliott Levine (recorded with Cecil Taylor), and Calvin Weston (recorded with Ornette Coleman).

Her interests in improvised music led her to move to Berlin, where she performs with various musicians. Also, she collaborates with contemporary dancers such as Yuko Kaseki, Akemi Nagao, and Annapaola Leso.

She performs at several experimental festivals: A'Larme Festival, JOE Festival Essen, Brda Contemporary Music Festival, XChange Festival, Experimental Festival, Flux Festival and Soundance Festival.

Her first Electro-Acoustic solo album "Paranorm '' was released from Japanese record label Athor Harmonics in 2018.

MEET THE ARTIST 👉 Franziska Aller

Acoustic/ electric bassist and composer. She grew up in Maxsain, Germany.

At the age of 7, Aller picked up the classic guitar. When she was 16, Franzi took up the electric bass guitar and later on the acoustic bass. Aller moved to Mainz to enroll at Hochschule für Musik in this city.

Franzi has performed with a variety of musicians of different genres including Tony Lakatos, Quique Senesi, Nana Co and The Hr Big Band just to name a few. As a sideman, Franzi plays in a wide spectrum of music, from operas to smaller ensembles.

Aller has been a member of the STEGREIF.orchester. Since 2018 Franzi is also a member of the band Conic Rose, Resonance Art Trio, among others. She is the leader of her one project blue lion.

MEET THE ARTISTS 👉🏽 Lucia Boffo

Born in the southernmost city of Argentina, Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, and based in Berlin. Studied Jazz singing at EMPA, in Buenos Aires and also taught Jazz Singing at the same school for four years.

In Buenos Aires, she has integrated different groups of jazz and original music, with which she has recorded many of these albums for the Argentine record label “El Club del Disco”(ARG), “ Ears&eyes records”(USA), and “Inpartmaint” (JAPAN). With these and other groups, Lucía has participated in Jazz festivals throughout Argentina, Uruguay, and USA.

As a professor, Lucia has also coordinated many S**t and vocal improvisation workshops: in Argentina, Uruguay and Germany.
Since she moved to Berlin, Lucia has been part of different music projects and performed in Jazz Venues and Festivals. Currently studying at the University of Berlin, UDK, at the Jazz Institut Berlin, and also presenting music from her upcoming album NOMADE. Her music lives in between Jazz, Argentinian folk, and instrumental and experimental music.

Saxophone player, composer, improviser and multidisciplinary artist from Buenos Aires, Argentina based in Hamburg, Germany. Her artistic practice and work reflect the constant creation of new sounds and visual landscapes, exploring the relationship between different forms of composition, free improvisation and mixed media where memory and identity are one of the main resonances of her work.

Her visual work includes super 8 film, archives, expanded cinema & digital video. Co-creator and curator of the series “La Jaula se ha vuelto pájaro y se ha volado” and curator of “The warmth of proximity”.

Has released as a band leader “A veces la luz de lo que existe resplandece solamente a la distancia”, “De este lado”, “Aura”,Corre el río de la memoria” and “Presencias”.Has composed the music of short films and circus performances such as “Cuando Corro” of Ana Luz Furth, “Garden” Circus performance in Stockholm by Anna Aro and “Lei La” by Karla Arévalo.

Days ago, exploded again for the third BUMMM! Jam Session. WOW! We still cannot believe how many people came and joined us! Even some faces are starting to be familiar... It is aaaawwwwsome!!!
We wanted to create a space in which women, le****ns, intersexual-, non-binary-, trans-, and agender people could feel confortable when going on stage, and we are getting it! It ́s great to see all those musicians and improvisers together, sharing what we all love, music, in such a respectful and cool atmosphere. 🙏🏻

MEET THE ARTIST 👉🏼 Isabel Rößler

Isabel is a German jazz bassist and improviser. After studying music in Nuremberg and Tallinn, she moved to Berlin in 2019. She is very active in the city's fluid free improv scene and became a steady member of the Bigband „The Omniversal Earkestra“, performing every Monday.
Besides her numerous collaborations with local and international artists, she has toured with her trio „Flut“ all over Germany and eastern Europe.

MEET THE ARTIST 👉🏿 Holly Schlott

Producer, composer, musician.
After the MHS "Hanns Eisler" Berlin 1974-80, professional career began in 1978 as a musician in the fusion band "Fusion" at the age of 19.
After several years of apprenticeship in various bands, mainly in the jazz field, s/he started her own band concept in 1983.
1985 followed the founding of the legendary wind quartet "FUN HORNS" (over 35 years), as well as the V. Schlott Quartet, REEDS-Solo project and many more.
As a guest soloist, s/he is on tour with the Danish band "New Jungle Orchestra" or "Talam 10" (Europe. USA, Canada, Australia).
Since 1995 s/he has toured with the great Greek composer M. Theodorakis and the Greek singer Maria Farantouri worldwide. During this period 1995-2010 s/he was also involved in several CD recordings.
Since 1997 s/he has also been a band member of soul + jazz singer Jocelyn B Smith and since 2006 s/he has also appeared as a musical director, producer („Expressionzz“ + meanwhile over 10 CD productions).
On over 80 CDs either as a sideman or as a creative composer and musician s/he has now deposited her brand as a saxophonist / flutist.
In 2018 Holly Schlott released her solo CD "two spirits", in which s/he spoke about your transgender identity for the first time in German jazz.
