One thing this pandemic has made me grateful for is the power of technology. While not having loved ones witness milestone moments in person, there’s been comfort in knowing they can be there virtually. Over the past year I’ve seen first hand how online platforms have the ability to bring communities and families together. Sure, we’re all a little sick of meeting this way instead of in person, but having this powerful tool available to keep us connected while we’re apart has been nothing short of a blessing.

I work in an industry led primarily by women. Over the past year we’ve watched our industry crumble. While the stress of the unknown, financial loss and constantly changing rules have brought us all to tears time and time again, I’ve watched my industry friends rise to each and every challenge. I’ve been awed by those of you that have kept your heads held high, smiled through the tears, and pivoted your businesses to stay afloat. I’m proud to be able to work alongside you. As I work to get this little business of mine truly going, to those of you that have taken the time to offer me support and advice, know that I am eternally grateful 🤍

One postponement, multiple guest list adjustments, countless rule changes, and many frustrations, S & P were married in October. They handled the many curveballs the pandemic threw at them with grace. When it came time to decide whether to postpone again or not, S said to me “no, we’re doing this thing! We just want to be married”.
While certainly not Plan A, or even B, their wedding was a day I’ll remember for a very long time. You could literally FEEL the love in the room. S & P, you’re two very special people - thank you for trusting me with your day 🤍 Can’t wait to catch up with you over a glass of Chardonnay soon!

I often get asked why I became an event planner. In all honesty, when I was in school I had no clue what I want to do with my life. About eight years ago I was given an opportunity to move into event sales, and once there, I never looked back. There's nothing quite like taking an initial vision or idea, designing it, and watching it become reality. I love elevating experiences, making things beautiful, and the endless chances to be creative and make something truly unique. My favourite thing though? The lasting relationships and memories that are made with my clients and industry colleagues.

One of the questions I get asked all the time is how to keep guests entertained during cocktail hour. It's an easy one to answer, as there are so many options! Here are some of my faves:
1. Guest portraits. Check out our friends - they're amazing!
2. Signature cocktails. Choose a couple of your favourites, and your bartender can tell your guests all about the drink while it's being mixed and poured.
3. Chef stations! Guests can watch their food being prepared, or add their choice of garnish
4. Wine or beer tastings. Pick a few beers from your favourite craft brewery, or have a Sommelier lead your guests through a flight of local wines
5. Interactive guest books. Have your friends snap a photo of themselves with a polaroid camera, tape it into your guest book, and add some well wishes alongside their photo

You've hired them, so use them! Vendors are a WEALTH of knowledge in our fields, and we love sharing what we know. We love our jobs and clients and want you to feel comfortable with us. Have a question or a crazy idea? Ask us what we think! Chances are we'll jump right on board with you and be just as excited as you to make your vision a reality.
☝️ Take this guy for example. is an amazing wedding photographer who meets in person with all his clients before their wedding so he can get to know them on a personal level. Trust us, this makes all the difference when it comes to being comfortable in front of a camera on your wedding day. In his spare (?!) time, he puts together marketing workshops and mentors other photographers and industry professionals.
This may seem obvious, but getting yourselves organized before starting to plan your wedding and then staying organized throughout the process can make ALL the difference. Make yourselves a wedding folder 💻 (or binder 📒) to file all of your email correspondence, contracts, quotes, etc. Create an email address for all of your wedding correspondence, and make your wedding website. Lastly, do things in a chronological order. Tackle the big stuff first, and worry about the small details later. For example, don't go and buy a bunch of decor pieces until you've picked your venue and considered what your floor plan is going to look like.

Creating your list of “wedding must haves” should be one of the first steps you make when planning your wedding. Maybe your priority is amazing photography or delicious food. Or maybe, it’s a killer pair of shoes (😍). Whatever your list includes, label each item 1, 2 or 3, with 1 being an absolute cannot live without. This will help determine how you’re going to spend your wedding budget. More money will be allocated to 1s than 3s!

It's been awhile since I showed my face on here, so thought I'd jump on and say hi! I'm Katie, the Owner & Principal Planner at Katie & Co. Occasions. Thanks for visiting! For those of you who I've already met, here are 10 things you may NOT know about me...
1. I was a competitive summer swimmer for 11 years, and coached for 5. 🏊🏻♀️I still swim twice a week (well, when pools are open) and love it.
2. I wanted to be a marine biologist growing up 🐳
3. I love all things wine. Not just drinking it, but the science and process behind it 🤓🍇🍷
4. I overthink things a lot and worry too much.
5. I used to love studying ancient civilizations - particularly Egyptian, Greek and Roman and their mythologies 💫
6. I hate mushrooms.
7. I love (I mean LOVE) jigsaw puzzles.
8. I'm a true crime ju**ie.
9. I like to play old videogames and computer games (Super Nintendo DK is my jam).
10. Give me any animal print shoes - guarantee I'll love them.
