Some great ideas in this article. I have noticed a trend for local weddings using beautiful blooms from local gardens in bouquets and table arrangements. What's not to like!

Weddings cause a massive amount of waste. But planning a wedding and making it environmentally friendly can be daunting. You might ask, “Is it more expensive if sustainable?” Or, “Wouldn’t it be easier if I kept to my original plans? No one will notice.”

An eco-friendly wedding doesn’t mean extra work or more money. And deep down inside, none of us want to add to the endless waste.

Going the sustainable route is becoming more common.

More wedding services in New Zealand are starting to cater for the more eco-conscious. We even have celebrants who focus on eco-friendly wedding ceremonies!

"Get married in a prison chapel and that marriage will be a lifesaver".

So said the tour guide as he took us through the Fremantle Prison and we paused a while in the light filled and grand chapel.

The world listed heritage site contains endless stories of the convicts and prisoners who passed through its gates.

It would have been a harsh life for the convicts as "they braved sun, sand, sin and sore eyes" as they were sent to build the early infrastructure around Fremantle.

Quite the destination now though and also a very popular place to book for a wedding too!

Visited the Pinnaroo Memorial Valley Cemetery on the way back from Yanchep National Park today.

A lovely day spent in peaceful and tranquil settings. Certainly not used to seeing kangaroos nibbling the greenery in NZ cemeteries!

Interesting to observe the sheer scale and creative spaces used to remember loved ones. Plaques adorned rocks, trees, stone path edges and also recessed into the lawns. Looked more like a botanical park on first glance.

Breaching whales offshore certainly added to the beauty.

Today hit 35°. Wow! My red face was almost as striking as the gorgeous wildflowers in Kings Park in Perth.

I love meeting and then working with my clients.

It is a joy to meet my couples and listen to their story about their journey that has brought them to plan their wedding day.

What a privilege to be entrusted with crafting a bespoke ceremony that is as special and memorable as the two individuals whose wedding I officiate.
What’s not to love about this job?? Lucky me. 😍

🥂 Champagne certainly gathers the sparkle of everyone on your wedding day.
So what’s the lowdown around alcohol and a marriage ceremony? 🥂

Well – as much as getting married is a personal journey, it’s also a legal one and the two of you and your witnesses must present as “sober” by law. So your celebrant will be discreetly assessing your sobriety before the ceremony starts, especially if there’s been a few “bubbles” knocked back by the bridal party.

Rule of thumb – if you’re fit to drive (2 units) then you’re fit to get married. And celebrants out there, have this conversation with your couple during discussions and at the rehearsal so everyone’s on the same page.

Shona was the celebrant on my wedding day. Her communication was excellent, regularly keeping in touch via email (as we lived out of town), as well as meeting in person when we were down South visiting.

Shona is very approachable and listened to all our ideas. She also provided great suggestions for what would work best on the day (ceremony readings, ceremony flow etc.).

On the actual wedding day, we had a beautiful ceremony & Shona incorporated many highlights and personal touches that we wanted included, with many guests commenting at how well the ceremony was presented and flowed.

Remembering Gunner Arnold E Savage. NZ Artillery.
Killed in action 7 December, 1943. Age 24.

Buried at the Commonwealth War Graves cemetery in Torino di Sangro, Abruzzo, Italy.

A memorable visit with our children in 2006. A beautifully kept cemetery but so sad to observe the huge human toll of war in this location alone.

This Easter country garden wedding was a gorgeous family affair.

What could be better than the youngest child being the grooms' attendant and also the responsible ring bearer. Great work Loky!! 👍

Great to have an autumn escape to Wanaka.

Stunning day today spent biking, walking and even took a long, lake swim. Even the dog spent much of the day in the water.
