A sombre salute at Sunderland Crematorium this morning for a lovely gentleman just 55 years young.

A former combat medic who served in Afghanistan was remembered and honoured with standard bearers and the Ode to Remembrance by comrades from the wonderful local charity Veterans In Crisis Sunderland who were there in this veteran's time of need.

"They shall grow not old,
As we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them."

Rest in peace, Rob. You will be missed, you will be remembered. 🙏

Yesterday, we said goodbye to one of the greats. A fella I was lucky enough to have known personally. A musical talent and local legend. A living library of jazz and soul and stories galore!

Dave "The Nature Boy" Weisser.

It was a real pleasure to know you buddy.

Take it to the Bridge... 🙏 🎶 🎺 🎤

A wonderful, heartfelt and well attended send off today for local singer and artist John "The Gaffa" Gaffney of South Shields.

As the curtains closed on his final public appearance the congregation full of friends, performers and artists alike, applauded John one last time in a standing ovation fit for a star 🌟

It's going to be one heck of a concert up there tonight! 🎶🎙️🎼 🎉

Last week I was bestowed the honour of conducting a very unique service following a direct cremation for a very unique young lady who passed away at just 30 years old.

The service, held at the very venue she loved to dance in, was a huge celebration of her life and her loves and included everything from blues dancing to Harry Potter!

With 5 speakers, poetry, projections and a live band, (with dancing, of course!) I'd say it was a very special send off indeed and was a privilege to take part in.

My thoughts are with the family and all her friends at this difficult time 🙏

A quiet and gentle send off this morning for a young lady of just 38 who left us far too soon.

At this time of year be sure to keep those you love close and check in with distant friends and family, let folk know you are there for them, should they need you.

Life, as they say, is short. Always make the most of whatever hand you're dealt.

Take care of one another. 🙏

A wonderfully fun and jovial send off today for a lady whom some might say was Betty Boop's number one fan!

Toes were tapping and smiles spread across the faces of all in attendance as the cartoon theme tune filled the chapel at full volume while we paid our last respects 🙏 🎶💋💄

Enjoy your ongoing journey Jane! "Boop-oop a-doop!" 😉

A post to mark two very different services I've performed recently, for two gentlemen who each enjoyed motorbikes.

A huge send off over in Blyth last week for a guy with a massive heart who was sadly taken at just 51 years old, who arrived in serious style with full motorcycle es**rt in a beautiful custom trike hearse.

And today's service for a 'cheeky chappy' who just loved to sing and make people laugh, who's similarly huge heart checked out at the age of 71 after a life well-lived.

Fellas, ride on and enjoy the journey. We'll meet you at the crossroads some day 🙏

A warm and gentle service held yesterday at Birtley Crematorium while the rain outside tapped rhythmically on the chapel windows.

A service for a wonderful lady by the name of Peggy, who at 88 years young had left a lasting impression of kindness and generosity and love on everyone she met.

Peggy loved tulips so here's a whole field of white ones to show my respects to such a special lady, now reunited with her beloved husband Billy and all her close friends ☺🌷

Rest in peace now Peggy and go on your journey. 🙏

This morning we said our Earthly farewells to a tremendous chap who filled his life with love, music, charity and happiness, right to the end. Something we can all aspire to.

The service was jam-packed with stories, memories, laughter and music... and a tear or two. It was an honour to be such a big part of today, my thanks to the family for inviting me to conduct the service.

To quote his favourite band, Marillion...

"Hold the perfect moment,
Pin the cloud to the sky.
Grab the spark and hold it,
You can try..."

Rest easy my friend and play it loud! 🙏🎶

This afternoon we bid a fond farewell to a very popular gentleman who, later in life, had begun thinking a little more about faith and what awaited us at the end of our Earthly journeys.

A piece of music this chap was particularly enamoured with and we played at his Committal was Imagine by John Lennon. We all listened intently to the words and melody together as we said our goodbyes.

We don't exactly know what awaits us on the other side but we can imagine and that's just one of life's little wonders.

Rest easy Jim and go with peace on your journey. 🙏

A respectful and well attended service this morning for a remarkable gentleman who dedicated his life to his voluntary work with local charity and mental health care service 'Headlight'.

Surrounded by friends and companions, with love, gratitude and the deepest respect, go on your journey Gary and know your memory lives on in the work you have done and the legacy you have left for future Headlight members. 🙏

A rousing service this morning at Sunderland Crematorium as we send a devoted NHS hero, cat-dad and life-long rock music fan on his final journey to the anthemic sounds of, 'Requiem: We Will Remember' by the band Saxon.

What a great way to start the day and "exactly what he would have wanted"... Well, who am I to argue with that? Keep on rockin' Andy! 🙏

Embrace.

A powerful word we just don't use enough I think, in either of its meanings.

What do you think YOU should embrace more?

For me, I hope to embrace the man I've become through these trying times and treat him well.

With so many changes to accept and unknown roads to travel, we must embrace the new around us and embrace what lies ahead in our future, lest we hold ourselves back in the past.

~ Mitch 🙏

It's been an honour to perform this afternoons service for a wee woman who may have been short in stature but was wealthy in love and lived a long and rich life of 92 years!

One of her last wishes was to get a cup of her favourite hot chocolate from Costa! Well, it's the least I could do! So here's to you Lillian, go on your journey and know you will be remembered fondly.

A quiet and reserved service this afternoon for a local Labour Councillor known to his comrades as 'Red Robbo'. A dedicated gentleman, socialist and activist who spent many years fighting the good fight for the working classes.

Never a more appropriate time to break out the rousing final verse of Percy Shelley's politically charged poem 'The Mask of Anarchy', which has been garnered over the years as somewhat of an anthem and a motto to the Labour Party.

Rise like Lions after slumber,
In unvanquishable number.
Shake your chains to earth like dew,
Which in sleep had fallen on you.
Ye are many — they are few.

Rest easy comrade. 🙏 🌹

"Whatever our personal burden or cross to bear might be, we are here. We live! We Learn! The Grand Adventure is under way for us. Terrible as our trials might be, we are blessed and not abandoned by God." ~ Elaine A. Cannon

A fine quote to motivate us on this bright and cheery Sunday morning! Get out there and cease your adventure! No matter your faith, no matter your belief, support is out there for all of us in many ways and is becoming more and more accessible to more and more in need. Reach out or speak up if you need to and get back to your journey 🙏 ❤️

A beautiful day yesterday for a service befitting a wonderful and kind hearted lady of 91 years.

As we left Tynemouth Crematorium and stepped out into the welcoming warmth of the afternoon sun the birds were singing a glorious chorus and the branches of the trees rustled their applause in honour of a much loved and well respected fan of drama, theatre and song.

Rest well and keep singing, Nita ~ Mitch 🙏

What a beautiful space, this wonderful little chapel is at Whitley Bay Crematorium and is a fantastic example of intricate fresco plaster work. A Grade 1 listed building, the chapel itself will be closed for protection while the rest of the site will be undergoing some upgrading work to the machinery and equipment below decks.

I was very happy to be one of the last ministers to run a service here before its closure for what may be some months.

I'll look forward to getting back behind the lecturn there soon 🙏

Whatever your faith or creed, wherever your spirit lies, to whom or whatever your heart belongs, be ever comforted that the end of your time on this Earth is never the end of YOU... just this chapter of your story.

What's waiting for you in the next chapter? Do you have an angel watching over your shoulder?

Tell me who you're looking forward to seeing again..
