According to the , the Hunter’s Moon “is so-named because it was considered a signal for hunters to begin hunting in preparation for the upcoming cold winter. At this time, game animals were also fattening up to ready themselves for the winter season. Moreover, since fields had recently been cleared out under the Harvest Moon, hunters could easily spot deer and other animals that had come out to search for remaining scraps. Additionally, foxes and wolves would also come out to prey on these animals.

The earliest use of the term ‘Hunter’s Moon,’ cited in the Oxford English Dictionary, is from 1710. Some sources suggest that other names for the Hunter’s Moon are the Sanguine or Blood Moon, either associated with the blood from hunting or the color of the changing autumn leaves.”

If you’re an introvert who hates the spotlight, then the idea of your first dance might be causing some anxiety.

Consider a private first dance if your venue has the space. For Micheline and Karl, that’s exactly what we did. After some couple portraits, while everyone down stairs was enjoying hors d'oeuvres, we went to the upstairs balcony and gave them the opportunity to dance together as husband and wife without having to do it in front of everyone.

There are always ways to adapt cherished traditions in a way that feels more personalized to you and your personalities. You don’t have to do it like everyone else. Cause you’re not like everyone else. You’re you and that deserves to be celebrated.

The one thing I *don’t* do on your wedding day that shouldn’t be weird but apparently is.

Tell you how to get into your dress.

More than likely, you’ve probably been getting dressed on your own for a very long time now. Granted, getting into a wedding gown is very different from zipping up a dress you bought at Target.

So while you’ll most likely need at least one person to help you get into it, what you don’t need is a photographer telling you where to stand and how to zip up the dress, or fake laugh at each other over your shoulder, or “okay let’s do that 3 more times”.

Because honestly, when did weddings become solely about the photos? Portraits every hour for every single moment of the day. That’s not a wedding. That’s a photo shoot.

Literally 99% of my clients tell me that they aren’t photogenic or are awkward in front of the camera.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I believe that the way you naturally exist in front of the camera is beautiful.

My methods for your portraits are more fluid than having a set process or pose for every couple. Your questionnaire answers play a huge part in this.

Sometimes I won’t say anything, just observe what you do and how you naturally behave in front of my lens. Then I’ll make some adjustments or give you some prompts. Other times, I’ll tell you exactly what to do and how to do it. I see how you respond to each method and can make adjustments as the session goes on.

My biggest tip for having your portraits done, is to lean into and push past the awkwardness. Allow yourself to feel weird and just keep going with it. Focusing on each other is a big help for taking your mind off things.

Because while it might feel awkward at the time, the results are worth it. My favorite photos are nearly always the ones where I didn’t tell you what to do. Just you in your natural “awkwardness” being incredibly breathtaking.

Desserts vs Cake - how do you choose?

Sure, wedding cake is a staple of American weddings, but that’s not really the point. The point is, do YOU like cake?

If you don’t like or want cake, don’t have one. Personal desserts like these from are big hits with your guests. You don’t need a cake just for the sake of cake cutting photos (and don’t get me started on fake cakes).

In fact, even for those who do want cake, it’s probably the number one thing on your wedding day that gets wasted more than anything else. The amount of cake that gets thrown away at the end of a wedding day would blow your mind. You need so much less cake than you think you do. The truth is, a lot of people simply don’t like cake and won’t eat it, no matter how amazing it is.

Consider a dessert bar instead of, or in addition to, having cake. You can order a variety of favorites in smaller portions, giving yourself and guests the chance to choose what they like.

Understanding wedding gown bustles: what are the two most common types and how do you know which one to get? The two most common bustle styles I see are the French Bustle and American Bustle. French Bustle uses a system of ties under your wedding dress to secure your train in a soft drape. You won’t see any of the ties from the outside of the gown. I personally see this the most on modern satin gowns. American Bustle secures your train on the outside of the gown, often with multiple points, depending on the weight of and length of the train. Lighter weight wedding dresses will sometimes only have one point in the middle, though I strongly suggest multiple points. I’ve had to sew bride’s dresses back together because their bustle only had one thin thread holding it up and the dress was too heavy. When you finally find THE dress, ask your bridal stylist to clip the gown in the different bustle styles so you can see what they will look like. Your alterations person will add the bustle for you, but it’s nice to see beforehand what it will look like. Want amazing photos without it taking over your wedding day?
