You are cordially invited to the 2022 Symposium on HIV and the Law.

This educational event is organized by Toronto articling and law students. Proceeds after administrative costs will be donated to help raise money to support the fight against HIV/AIDS in Africa. This program contains 1.5 EDI Professionalism Hour(s).

This inaugural event aims to bring together professionals, students, community members, activists and allies for a discussion about HIV and the Law through the lens of equality, diversity and inclusion (“EDI”) in the legal profession. The Symposium will feature a moderated panel discussing immigration and refugee issues facing persons with HIV, and issues surrounding criminalization of HIV non-disclosure. The panel is moderated by Maurice Tomlinson and features Christopher Nkambwe, Deborah Rachlis and Shakir Rahim as panelists.

Speakers will share their personal experiences and insights in order to foster discussions about what legal professionals in different areas of the law should keep in mind when dealing with persons experiencing challenges relating to HIV. The goal is to explore some of these unique challenges together and discuss ways that we can identify and overcome inequities and implicit biases to create a more inclusive legal profession.

*This program contains 1.5 EDI Professionalism Hour(s).

**Registration payments for this event go towards the administrative costs of the event and proceeds will then be donated. As such, registration payments are not eligible for charitable tax receipts.
