Just incase you think I look at Earlswood through rose tinted glasses. I don't! I know the Brook is polluted. I know we have too many cars on the roads and no real solution for that. I know that littering is a problem.
But what can we do about it? Report it to the council. Go for a litter pick. Raise awareness on social media. Ask questions. Change habits.
Polite reminder. You don't need to be a zero waste, vegan, tree hugger to make a difference. Just starting to help, helps!

๐ In this instance, my "Iffy Choices" are to promote polluting events as a business that primarily promotes sustainable events. And my "Doing Good Stuff" is community or eco focused stuff I try to do every day anyway!
๐ My question is, does one cancel out the other, or am I straying into dangerous greenwashing waters? Offsetting within a more corporate setting is a notoriously ineffective way to do good. But for a local event that I didn't organise or run, am I just overthinking it?! ๐

THE LOWDOWN:
Surrey Highways were proposing to change the operational hours on the single yellow line on Garlands Road from Monday - Friday 10am - 11am, to Monday - Saturday 8am - 6.30pm(!)
THE PROCESS:
We invited every Garlands Road resident to our local community pub, The Garibaldi, to discuss. We also invited our local Surrey councillor, Cllr Jonathan Essex.
THE VERDICT:
After extensive objections from the residents of Garlands Road, the decision was made not to proceed with the proposal.
๐ I don't know about you, but it gives me hope in the power of community ๐ DOUBLE TAP IF YOU AGREE!
๐ท๐ป๐ฅ And the best bit?? We now meet in the pub once a month to discuss local issues and hang out with our neighbours.

1. Don't do anything stupid for the sake of social media.
2. AND! ๐ Don't use your phone whilst your child is in the water.
3. Buddy up. Don't swim alone. If you're in the middle of nowhere, find out your what.3.words location incase you get into trouble.
4. Wear a life jacket if you're going out in a boat. Even competent swimmers can struggle in cold water, or when taken by surprise.
5. Stay hydrated, stay safe in the sun and stay out of polluted waters.

Specifically in this instance, just because we couldn't afford the packaged experience, doesn't mean we didn't make memories. It felt like an important message to communicate to my kid last night. He adores Sam Ryder, and fortunately we were able to hear him from the other side of the fence too. ๐

Journeying from Brooklands Museum to Brighton, this awesome convoy went straight through Earlswood on the A23.
We stood and watched for hours. Chatting with neighbours, chilling in the sunshine, and waving to get honks or dings of the bell! ๐

Today is Surrey Day. And By The Horns brewery in Salfords are opening their doors to the public to celebrate! And hooray, ๐ the sun is shining in readiness.

I popped by yesterday to see how set-up was going, and it was all hands on deck. It takes a lot of work to be ready for the public, so let's be a community that shows up for local and supports our local brewery!
With @onthehoofbarandkitchen serving up delicious street food from 1pm and live music by @riverkites from 4pm - it truly is a celebration of all things local. And as an added bonus, By The Horns are running free brewery tours!
To get the train from Earlswood, just follow the cut through opposite Salfords station and swing left through the 'doorway' in the wall. Turn left again at unit 30 and you should see/ hear the brewery from there. ๐ป SEE YOU THERE? ๐ป

The perfect storm!โก๏ธI could have watched it for hours. Wait, I literally did!
Was anyone else super fascinated by the incredible electric storm? It was like someone was turning the light on and off really quickly.
Towards the end of the storm, it began to rain and thunderstorm. But looking at videos of the storm that hit the rest of the world, I'd suggest we got off lightly. France had severe hail, whilst southern US states were hit by a tornado.

THINGS YOU SHOULD GIVE A CRAP ABOUT, PART 2
Surrey Council have announced their Vision Zero Road Safety strategy and prople seem to have got the wrong end of the stick.
Yes, they have mentioned SOME roads potentially becoming 20mph zones to improve road safety, but this won't happen without just cause (eg outside a school that experiences frequent dangerous driving etc).
In my opinion, I SUPPORT this consultation. It creates opportunity to REDUCE danger on the roads that children use to get to school, by INVESTING in improved walking and cycling infrastructure and provide effective police enforcement to those driving dangerously.
Whether you support or object, you have until SUNDAY 24th MARCH to voice your opinions. But if you miss this date, you can still comment anyway.

Redhill Train Station proposed development has had some modifications and Solum have applied again for planning permission from the council.
Whether you support or object, you have until THURSDAY 21ST MARCH to voice your opinions. But if you miss this date, you can still comment anyway.
Personally, my objections are about considerable lack of parking, epic volume of added traffic, limited accessibility access, lack of affordable housing, height of the flats, and do we need more flats when the current developments aren't fully occupied.
