I don't always have a chance to do last-minute weddings, but when I can I sure do! This month I've been able to create lovely elopements for several couples who reached out less than a week from their date, and while it's a wild ride, it's totally worth it and so fun! The sunflowers are blooming! What a beautiful time for a wedding!
I did a lovely little outdoor ceremony beside a field of sunflowers last summer, and I assure you, it was gorgeous!

That time
I thought I could not

So I went practicing.

Have you heard
the laughter
that comes, now and again,
out of my startled mouth?

How I linger
to admire, admire, admire
the things of this world

also troubled –
roses in the wind,
the sea geese on the steep waves,
a love
to which there is no reply?

It's been a busy month of BEAUTIFUL fall weddings! This week, one light-hearted couple introduced a new ritual into my wedding options: The Pinky Swear Ceremony!

It was super fun starting their wedding by guiding them through a pinkie-swearing promise to love each other, laugh together, and support each other. Everyone laughed, everyone smiled, and then we got down to business.

Today, we held a wedding for 3 hours. Mother of the groom was coming from the far north, taking bus after bus after bus, and was hours delayed. They wanted to know, would I mind waiting? I was just grateful I could.

I can't imagine missing your son's wedding by a couple of hours, due to travel delays out of your control. So we did what we could to keep that from happening. Guests hung out, visiting, playing on their phones, running out to get some coffee and coming back, and eventually--once mom was sitting on the front row, glowing--we got that ceremony started!

Officiating weddings is always a joy, even when something unexpected, like a travel delay, occurs. And it just goes to prove--you never know what might happen at a wedding!

If you were waking around campus at lunch today and thought you saw someone officiating a wedding in the drizzle while shivering, that was just me doing a lovely quick little 2-22-2022 ceremony for a gorgeous couple and their lovely daughters. Next time, it could be you!

This week I have gotten to perform 3 weddings, each within 2 days of first contact! There is no waiting period in Missouri, and if you want to get married TOMORROW, I'll do my best to make it happen!

I was privileged to get to perform a wedding for two lovely women yesterday, who said they wanted "to do whatever vows you do for Le****ns." :-) The answer is--I do the same vows for anyone who wants to be married. Gender, orientation and pronouns don't matter at all. You love someone you want to marry, I'll do it.

I recently scheduled a wedding for September with someone who apologized for being so last-minute. I told her not to worry--this month I've booked and performed at least two weddings with less than a week's notice, one of those next-day. I've literally performed a wedding the afternoon of the day I was initially contacted. If you have a license, and I'm free, we'll do it! No need to apologize, no need to make detailed plans in advance. You want to be married? Let's do it!

I did attend a Lord of the Rings themed wedding last fall, which was amazing. I also officiated a wedding where the couple used the vows from The Co**se Bride, and that was ALSO epic.

The fun thing about planning your own wedding is that you get to do WHATEVER is meaningful to you and your loved one. Nothing is off the table.

But you do want to be sure and read from the intended book.

Expansive relationships are so beautiful. Very worth exploring. This is one of the reasons the vows I usually use in my weddings include each person promising the other "to encourage you to meet all of your goals." Partnerships that encourage growth and mutual evolution can create some of the most amazing humans out there.

This lovely couple chose me to officiate their wedding ceremony, and asked if I would mind wearing one of their traditional Ethiopian robes for the celebration. I was honored to be able to do so. Such a lovely little ceremony!
