Last week, I shared an Instagram story memory of my 50th episode of Electronic Unfoldings, posted back in 2020. This episode is one of my favorites I’ve ever done, especially during a darker time in my life. I wanted this week’s TBT to be about it.

The episode is 5 hours and 30 mins long, one of the longest I’ve ever done. I recorded this on Virtual DJ without any hardware (I used to mix like this before getting a proper DJ controller). This mix also represents my favorite style of extended set mixing, which I like to call “curve mixing,” where I start out with a slower genre and then pump it up little by little to the more energetic ones. I also made a lot of exclusive mashups just for this mix.

This year I started playing a weekend residency at a restaurant near my area. In my music discovery and preparation for those gigs, I’ve been discovering lots of great house music, especially this deep, funky, smooth, and kick-heavy house that I’m showcasing in this mix.

I think this sound always fits the summer vibe very well, therefore I decided to call it Summer House Mix 2023. Later on this year, I will be uploading more of this kinda of house sound that I’ve been enjoying this year. I hope you enjoy this brief but Housey mix!

Mix B is sort of a sequel to my most popular mix yet: Afterlife Medellín Warmup Mix. Honestly, this is one of, it not my favorite mix I've done this year so far. I felt great with the track selection and flow.

Uploaded a week later than usual, but for a good reason: this month I will be uploading not 2, but 4 mixes on my YouTube channel!

This is the first mix out of four. July’s Sunset Mix will have two parts: Mix A and Mix B.

Mix A is your typical showcase of Progressive, Deep, and Organic sounds. Mix B, which will be released next week, is steered into a more Melodic House & Techno direction (sort of a follow up to my most successful YouTube mix so far: Afterlife Medellín Warmup).

Let's bring back a sound that's often forgotten but holds a special place in my heart. This progressive sound, once prominent, has become less common nowadays. It played a significant role in shaping my early taste in electronic music, with artists like deadmau5, Alpha 9, Adam K & Soha, Shingo Nakamura, and more popularizing it. If I were to describe it, I'd call it a 'bouncy, pluck-heavy, melodic' progressive house sound, perfect for cruising or a day by the beach. Check out this mix that sets the tone for your summer! THROWBACK THURSDAY: MIXES FROM THE PAST

When selecting a mix for this week's first Throwback Thursday, it was difficult since there are so many of them. I focused on selecting one of my first ten episodes of 'Nicolás Villa's Mix' uploaded in early 2014. I was going to go with Nicolás Villa's Mix Episode 001. However, I picked Episode 008 since it had memorable bangers like Ghost Town, Dragonfly, Astronaut, Proxy, and probably my favorite Ilan Bluestone track to this date: Big Ben.

Just as a reminder, these are some of my very first mixes ever done. For instance, my mixing technique wasn't on point, the sound quality wasn't great, no harmonic mixing, no gain control, amongst other factors. Also, I was mixing genres like Big Room, Electro, Melbourne Bounce, EDM Progressive House, with some Progressive Trance here and there, but mostly what was blowing up during that time. Later on I started to focus more on Trance & Progressive primarily.

Regardless, I hope you enjoy this throwback post to one of my first mixes on Mixcloud! If you are professional/experienced DJ, you perhaps will picknick and judge the mix. Honestly, go ahead. I don't care. I was just starting out back then. My intention is to show where I've come from and the journey I slowly took to get to where I am mixing-wise and taste-wise.

Hey everyone, it has been a while. I hope you are all doing great! Here is an update regarding my mixes and other musical content. I try to be transparent as possible and also hold myself accountable to stick to these plans for my DJ-related future content:

I have been dedicating my focus lately to other personal and professional projects. Therefore, I’ve put music to the sideline for the past few months. However, I have been listening to tons of new music lately and saving hundreds of tracks for future content. But for the moment, I’ve been on an active hiatus from mixing. I am planning and preparing for a comeback/reinvention for next year. My goal is for 2023 to be my best year musically yet! Here is a breakdown of what is to come:

Rest of 2022 content:
- Every week I will upload on my socials Throwback Thursdays posts of my mixes made from past years. I will do this until Electronic Unfoldings Episode 100 Part III is released later this year. I’ve been Bedroom DJing for almost ten years now, and I want to take you back to some of my favorite mixes I’ve done (mostly on Mixcloud).
- Electronic Unfoldings Episode 100 Part III is still in the works. I was planning on finishing and releasing it earlier in the summer, but personal and professional life matters got ahead of me. I will upload it before the year ends. It is probably my most ambitious mix yet since I started Bedroom DJing in 2013.

New DJ content/shows for 2023:
- Finca Sessions: New live-filmed DJ sessions around my farm and surrounding areas where I live. EU Episode 100 Part I is an accurate example of what the show will look like.
- Extended Marathon Mixes filmed live: At least once a year, I want to film a long-extended mix where I use my entire electronic dance library and test my endurance, DJ skills, and electronic musical knowledge. Hopefully, I can also live-stream this without getting copyright claimed. Otherwise, I will record it privately and upload it afterward for all to witness.
