After a very long hiatus (and the birth of our beautiful Lily Catherine) Jessica Hewett Curating is very excited to bring ‘Lonesome Savage’ to Gallery 1871 in Port Broughton!

A joint exhibition showcasing the works of Debbie Savage and Michele Charvetto of Lonesome Valley Studio, come along and view some exceptional pieces by some truly exceptional women.

After much anticipation it’s HERE!

THIS WEEKEND Friday 25th and 26th Gallery 1871 will be hosting Ella Boylan’s “SASCAPES” Exhibition!

The series ‘SASCAPES’ takes inspiration from South Australia’s most picture perfect coastlines, many of which Ella spends her weekends camping, surfing and relaxing. This mixed media collection encompasses her celebrated abstract style, with a glimpse of realism.

FREE ADMISSION to Gallery 1871, 36 McKay Street, Port Broughton

The countdown is on to Georgia Ivens exhibition in Gallery 1871 - “Home” will showcase this exceptional collection of work celebrating the beauty of the Yorke Peninsula and resonating especially with those of us who live in or have a special connection to this area.

The exhibition is FREE and will open Friday 4th March, extending every day over the March long weekend with gallery hours 10am-3pm.

Due to the nature of the Covid world times - the Gallery will open sporadically from then until the 17th.

I'm excited to share with you all my upcoming exhibition 'Home'

'Home' will be showing from the 4th - 17th of March in the new Gallery 1871 Port Broughton. Note the Gallery Launch will be a private event and more details still to come re. gallery open hours. Many thanks to Jessica Hewwett for inviting me to show at Gallery 1871 Jessica Hewett Curating

'Home' will celebrate all the places on the Yorke Peninsula that make my heart feel at home. It also pays tribute to some of my favourite photographers that cherish and respect this beautiful land we are lucky enough to call home. It will celebrate farming life and community - with some portraiture works included. Local photographers have kindly let me use their work to paint from over the years and I am always very inspired by them.

Well hello there … and a big welcome to 2022!

JHC has been very quiet on social media over the last month - catching a breath, completing some further learning by a Sotheby’s Fine Art Institute Curating Course (YAY) and spending some quality and ‘present’ time at home with family … but also planning, much planning 🤣

There are not one but three exciting events planned in February, March and April - so stay tuned details will start coming in the next few days … as always these events are planned with COVID in mind, understanding that there are a lot of unknowns on the horizon and we are subject to all guidelines and restrictions to keep ourselves and community safe.

Having said that, it’s also nice to have something exciting to look forward to if we are fortunate enough to be able to go through with these events and opportunities ❤️

Thankyou to all of the little and big artists who contributed to the Christmas Card Competition! Reading and viewing children’s interpretation of “what Christmas means to me” was absolutely heart melting. All winners were contacted on Sunday and there were some excited little people 💕

The biggest themes that stood out were family, love and time - three of the most important in life but sadly three that some families are struggling with as we speak.
These cards will be available for purchase soon and all profit will be going to towards the who do amazing work supporting seriously ill children and their families.

On another note … well done to the families and carers - whatever shape that might take - of the entrants, you’re doing an amazing job and have created some beautiful young people ❤️

Jessica Hewett Curating’s first Dinner Event “Evening at the Christkindlmarkt” is Friday night and we just wanted to share with you one of the key components of one of the four delicious courses - fresh Spencer Gulf Yellowfin Whiting! Personally I prefer these bad boys to King George, they are absolutely divine eating fish.
These were caught yesterday in the Spencer Gulf waters outside of Port Broughton and filleted today for our event - you just can’t get fresher than that!

Whilst we are looking forward to the festive season, and hopefully sharing that time safely with our loved ones, it is important to remember that there are those out there who need our support and kindness. For various reasons some look towards this time of the year, or indeed every day, with anxiety and fear.

I would truly appreciate some suggestions of organisations who would benefit from the proceeds of the kids Christmas card competition. In researching worthy recipients, I have discovered how little I know about smaller very important organisations therefore I’d like it if you could suggest some!

This will be a regular and ongoing fundraising event – held at various times throughout the year. So please – list as many organisations as possible and perhaps multiple organisations could benefit.

Please share and if you have time visit some of the organisations that will appear below to see the good that is being done out there ❤️

Kid’s Christmas Card Competition

Calling ALL budding young artists!

Share with us some of your beautiful artwork and go into the running to have your creation appear on a Christmas Card!

Your artwork needs to be clearly named, A4 in size, using any medium you like, and be based around the following theme …

“What does Christmas mean to ME?”

There are 5 age categories, therefore 5 winners!

Ages 2-4

Ages 10-12

Ages 13-17

Winners will be announced SUNDAY NOVEMBER 21st and have their artwork made into beautiful quality Christmas Cards ready for the festive season!

We’ve had such a wonderful community response to Barunga West Council’s Early Years Exhibition! A huge Thankyou to all of those who’ve popped in!

We had a private opening Thursday afternoon (thus no mask requirement) where our kindy kids could show their families their work. By far the biggest highlight has been their delight in seeing their artwork on show, being able to share that with their loved ones and the brilliant explanations of what they have created!

We’ve been open three days now and have had at least 50 groups come through - many of whom were able to contribute to our donation box to buy the kindy new art supplies!

This exhibition will be open every day until Saturday 13th November 10-2pm so pop in and have a look! Thanks so much to our wonderful volunteers who are making this possible ❤️

Barunga West Council and myself can’t wait to see the little faces of our artists and their families today!!!

Come down to Gallery 1871 from tomorrow the 5th til Saturday the 13th to see what our youngest artists and their amazing early childhood educators have been up to ❤️

Gallery 1871 will be open to the public, free admission, all ages welcome from 10-2pm every day thanks to our incredible Arts Committee and Visitors Information Centre - how lucky are we to live in a town with such dedicated and wonderful volunteers!

EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT!

As we inch closer to the end of 2021, Jessica Hewett Curating is incredibly excited to start announcing the line up of exhibitions and events coming in 2022.

So it is with great pleasure we announce Ella Williams of Ella Boylan Art is coming to Port Broughton’s Gallery 1871 February 25th-26th!

Port Lincoln based Ella colourfully and contemporarily blurs the line between abstract and realism with her subject matter varying from the rugged West Coast seascapes to surrealist portraits, and most recently a series demonstrating the cool Cacti of the Americas. Along with her beautiful creations Ella will also be running a series of workshops to introduce you to the beauty of Acrylic - workshops that have been enjoyed all along the Eyre Peninsula!
