Many marriage celebrants don't like to do funerals. I love to do both. I have never shied away from death. As a reporter, I have covered too much of it. I
have been privileged to write several obituaries of those famous and less so. I sit on a government board reforming the funeral industry. I am well trained and know I can create and conduct any ceremony to honour the deceased appropriately.
Memorialising people and events is an essential part of grieving. With many years of experience, I always prepare a questionnaire for meetings with the family, getting all the information in a way that does not make the family uncomfortable but allows the family to discuss the deceased person openly, often sharing personal details and anecdotes.
There's always sadness and grief to accept and manage, but every life is also worthy of celebration and joy, whatever caused its ending. In the most trying of circumstances and worst of days, I can help families navigate and make the most of any funeral or wake.
