This week's is brought to you by concrunch!

The costumes are coming along nicely, but we still have a ton of work to do in the next week.

Angela's base costume is done, which is nice, we just need to work on her wig yet. If we have time we will add an over-cloak too. I'm not too concerned about getting those done as it will likely be too warm to wear them anyways.

The lightsabers are coming along well. The electronics are pretty much done, we just need to solder in the activator switches, which will be pretty much the final step. They are now running off of rechargeable lithium ion batteries, so they can be charged with a micro USB at the end of each con day. The hilts are primed, with a bit of paint down, the next big step on the sabers is getting them all painted up.

Just about one week until FanExpo!

Had an awesome time at this past weekend as the latest members of Organization XIII, Nalgexa and Wraxden!

(We beat up Aqua and Ventus and took their keyblades.)

Anime North is our favourite local convention and it was great to be back after a couple of years.

It's and it is time for a cosplay update!

This week has been filled with 3D printing. I finished up Bill Doran's course on Fusion 360 this week. He runs down the basics of the program and includes three sample projects, a bullet from Hellboy, Luke's RotJ lightsaber and the Noisy Cricket from MiB. I learned a lot and I feel like I can make all sorts of my own props now! The print came out a little rough on the Noisy Cricket, it is very small with a lot of detail, I will need to figure out how to calibrate the printer a bit better. We are also currently working on a new design for Angela's lightsaber.

Thank you very much for the course, ! We went to our first convention in 2012 and shortly after that, I started to pay closer attention to what the Fitness Geek was saying during The Morning Stream. Been learning from your work ever since!

I am back to working on my ESB Luke lightsaber (STLs also from Bill) getting that all finished up. I would like to design my own lightsaber as well, but for now I will finish Luke's to ensure I have one done for FanExpo. The nice thing is that it is easy to swap the electronics and blades between saber hilts.

I also finished printing a couple blasters for my S&BiL. Cara Dune's blaster STLs were from Thingiverse, by nataliegroman. Han Solo's DL-44 Blaster was also from Thingiverse, STLs by PortedtoReality. The DL-44 is a very cool print. It comes in about 40 pieces and a 12ish page instruction manual. :)

Other than that, Angela started some mockups for her robes, which I forgot to take a picture of. Have a good week, everyone, 9 more days until Anime North!

We handed off the explorer costumes yesterday, so now it's on to the next project!

I've been having fun learning Fusion 360 and doing some more 3D printing, we made some belt buckles for this one. I was also working on some parts for a lantern conversion, but then we found lanterns at the dollar store... so we just used those. 😅

The maps were also fun to make, good old tea water and fire!

Patterns for the hats were from , which was a real help in finishing these up. I am looking forward to getting better at foam, these turned out pretty good, but I'm looking forward to making my seams a little better.

Also, sorry for the last few name changes. We are good now... naming internet things is hard in 2022.

Having fun making some explorer costumes this week for our church's VBS program this summer. Should have these wrapped within the next week or so and then back to Star Wars!

It's and we are just over a week away from Niagara Falls Comic Con.

I made a bit of a goof yesterday. I made a paper stencil for the airbrush for Monomon's mask, which bled like crazy, and then I also forgot to take a picture, hence the no update yesterday. But today I made a stencil out of tape, like I should have done right away, still didn't work perfect, but it'll have to do. It amazes me how far out the particles spray from the airbrush, you can see a clear line where I removed the tape, even though the intended paint area is quite a ways away.

Welp, almost done Quirrel, just need to attach Monomon's mask and add some shading to the sword. Time to paint some Radiance armour.

Angela also made this whittle fox.She finished carving it a bit ago and painted it today.

T minus 12 days until Comic Con!

Finished up Quirrel's face mask today and have been working on finishing up Mononmon's mask, Quirrel's sword, and sealing up the Radiance's spikes.

Angela made a garter belt for holding up her leg armour as well as some stirrups on the bottom of her leggings so they don't hike up.

Ange and Claira also quickly made up a costume for Ancient Egypt day at school this week.

Well, we are officially in mode! So we'll be posting a progress picture every day between now and , or until we finish up our costumes.

Today is some work on the headpiece for the Radiance. Head spikes are assembled and are currently getting sealed. The mask with glowing eyes is assembled.

I finally remembered to add the cracks in Mononmon's mask for the Quirrel costume.

I said I'd probably be done Quirrel by this week's ...

I was gravely mistaken!

Getting there though, working on the paint job. We have also been wrapping up the foam work on the Radiance, made the mask and prepped the electronics this week. Just need to finish up the crown.

Just a small update for this week's .

We finished up the foamwork on the Radiance's boots.

Finished priming all of Quirrel and are now working on paint. Should hopefully be finished painting that one by next week.

It's !! Just about finished the foam work on the Radiance's leg armour.

Finished sanding all of the foam on Quirrel's gear and started priming with Flexidip.

We have also decided that we are not going to be try and rush out two Mandalorian suits by Fan Expo. Instead, once we have Hollow Knight wrapped up, we are going to make a couple Jedi outfits and wear those to Fan Expo this year. Once the Jedi are done, we will jump right into Mandos and that will be our main costume build for the next con season.

It's and we have been busy working on Quirrel. Most of the rough foam work is done, now it's just time to clean up all the edges.

Really happy with the layered look of the foam. Gunna be best isopod.

The zipper works really nice too, just need to add some magnets or velcro to hold down the side flap that covers the zipper.

We are a little bit behind on our projects, we were hoping to be done with Hollow Knight by the end of the week, but we will probably spend another two weeks or so finishing it up.

Lots of progress on the Radiance for this week's ! Finished the torso and wings, may add some airbrushing to the feathers yet for some more contrast.
The feathers were pretty tricky to work with because they ended up quite heavy and stiff. Ange ended up adding harness straps and velcro to the inside of the suit to help hold it all together.

Boot covers are done and leg armour patterns are ready to go!
The boot covers are vinyl and made to open at the side to allow the zipper of the original boot to be accessed. They're also made to be fully removable so the base boot can be reused. Armor additions for over the boot vinyl are still in progress.
For the leg armour, we used cling wrap and duct tape and drew the design on Angela's leg before cutting it off (duct tape not leg) and transferring the pattern to paper. The pattern was modified a bit to make ridges at the hips.

It's , we have had a busy week this week, so not a lot of progress on our main costumes. However, I will show off this cool other 3D printing/electronics project I'm working on. Make sure your sound is on!

Small update for this week. We spent the majority of our time working on making big feathers for the Radiance's wings. Unfortunately, the material melted under iron temperatures!

We soaked all the fabric in watered down Mod Podge to give the feathers a bit more rigidity, then hung them up all over the craft room.

Our glowy orange LED eye panels arrived this week, those are going to work out great.

We are also started having more success with the 3D printer this week too!

Lots of fun updates for this week's !! We are working on our chest pieces for Hollow Knight.

We decided to save some money on expensive faux fur fabric and bought a cheap fuzzy blanket from Amazon instead... may have cause a bit of extra cleanup. 😅

I'm having a lot of fun with my foam chest piece too, getting wrapped in plastic wrap and then duct tape is the best!

Sometimes it is just easier to modify your costume while wearing it!

On this , we are finished our cloaks. We added the pockets and beads on the weekend and now we are ready to go for Anime North. Unfortunately, it was pushed back to July... so we finished with lots of time to spare!

We will take some more complete pictures when it gets a little dryer outside.

We have now moved on to our Hollow Knight costumes. I have decided to do Quirrel instead of The Hollow Knight and Angela is still doing the Radiance. I sketched her outline on some paper while she lay on the floor. Proportions turned out pretty prefect. I think her head turned out particularly well.

Had lots of fun playing with the 3D printer this week too and looking forward to using that some more heading into our Mandalorian costumes. I seemed to now have it calibrated properly and printing things nicely. Mostly.

Happy , everyone!

Angela's cloak is coming along nicely. We just have to hem both of those up a bit, add some pockets, and the detaily dangly bits. Hoping to be done this weekend.

I have been messing around with some glowing eye ideas. Hot glue and leds, not gunna work the way I want. 😅

We were also able to pick up a new tool for the shop that we are really excited about! 😁

It's and we've got paint! Keyblades are coming along nicely, should (🤞) be done before our next update.

The new airbrushes are really sweet, though, I still struggle a bit to try and get cheaper paint to run through them.

Since the bronzy-gold paint doesn't cover very well I am base coating those areas in a browny-yellow.

Also, masking tape never works out properly for me, no matter how often I try it. 😅

We are starting with some colour on this !

Got the keyblades all Mod Podged, sanded, and primed. However, I was a bone head and missed a couple of the circle dealies on my Wayward Wind, so I will need to add those tomorrow before I can continue with the paint job.

I was too excited to use my airbrush though tonight, so I picked out my colors and did some test sprays in the booth while Angela did the same and started to apply a silver base coat.

It's Mod Podge day on this fantastic ! The keyblade builds are done and we are working on sealing them up and getting them ready for paint!

We ended up making the chains primarily out of thermoplastic and I think that worked put pretty sweet.

We also made a stop at the fabric store and bought ALL the black Hillier Twill! We will be starting to make our cloak patterns in between paint and sealer layers.

It's ! A bunch more finishing work this week. I suspect we should be able to start sealing and priming over the next week.

We have just started making the keychain for the keyblades. I think I am just going to carve those out of 6mm foam, though I'm not sure how I'm going to build the chain yet.

I am definitely happy I redid the key prongs on the Wayward Wind, the second ones turned out much better.
