🗞️ ZF Unveils Smart Seat Belt Technology

With its new seat belt system, ZF Passive Safety Systems will enable significantly improved adaptation of the belt force limitation to the size and body weight of the vehicle occupants in the future.

The Multi-Stage Load Limiter (MSLL) is primarily responsible for the individual system adjustment. It helps to further reduce the consequences of accidents for all occupants and enables car manufacturers to meet the increased requirements of the NCAP Roadmap 2030.

Two InCabin Giants announce acquisition!

According to the Investor and Analyst Webcast hosted by Tobii this morning, this acquisition is a critical component of the strategy for their path to leadership in the DMS market. Xperi's future is focused on simplifying their business and maintaining their core position in the media and entertainment industry.

Tobii is positioned to leverage the software assets developed by Xperi, as well as the momentum defined by existing design wins with OEMs, in addition to the software expertise.

Xperi's Autosense brings in six OEMs to Tobii's one, such as a premium German OEM, a large Japanese OEM and a large Korean OEM. Production on these design wins start in 2025 and 2026, and the OEMs aligned with these wins from the last 18 months represent 15+% of the global auto manufacturing footprint.

🗞️LG's smart TV platform comes to Hyundai cars to brighten up your road trips

Hyundai Motor Group, which owns the Hyundai, Kia and Genesis automotive brands, has announced a new partnership with LG Electronics to bring its webOS for Automotive interface into future cars.

➡️ The platform, which is based around LG's existing smart TV OS, will allow passengers in the front and back seats to watch "high-definition content they typically enjoy on their smartphone or TV in compliance with driving and safety regulations," according to a statement released by LG Electronics.

🗞️ UK government announces self-driving legislation in King’s Speech 📢

The new 'Automated Vehicles Bill' in the UK, as introduced in the King's Speech 2023, is huge news for the autonomous vehicle (AV) industry. There have long been discussions around the ethics of programming decision-making in challenging edge cases, as well as the liability in the case of an accident – this bill sets out to inform the latter through regulation and standards, which will impact all stakeholders from engineers to insurers. https://hubs.ly/Q0289JX10

Here are the key takeaways:

1️⃣ The UK's Automated Vehicles Bill aims to promote self-driving vehicles as part of an ambitious transportation & economic vision, granting legal authority to the Department for Transport to certify the safety of autonomous vehicles.

2️⃣ Companies deploying autonomous vehicles will be held accountable, and potentially liable, in crashes. Sanctions will include penalties and fines, requirements to take corrective action, suspension of operation, and criminal offences in the most serious cases.

3️⃣ Only vehicles that meet safety standards will be allowed to be marketed as self-driving, with the driver retaining responsibility for other vehicles. The bill streamlines the legal framework, reducing the need for safety drivers, but legal challenges remain, including defining safety standards and responsibility transitions between human and autonomous drivers.

4️⃣ Consumer protection and marketing restrictions are incorporated into the bill; and the Digital Markets, Competition, and Consumers Bill may also affect manufacturer subscription services such as infotainment.

5️⃣ Safety, traffic congestion relief, and data access are key policy considerations in the legislation, although concerns have been raised around the availability of post-accident data to investigators, as well as the impact of infrastructure such as faded road markings and pot holes, and accessibility for those with additional mobility needs.
