it’s still 3 weeks from now but tix are going fast for this Weird Wednesday treat on 3/5 when i revisit films like NOTHING BUT TROUBLE, films that i watched an absurd amount of times as a child, it’s enlightening. it reveals a lot to me about my psyche, my deeply ingrained sense of humor, and gives a more precise understanding of what is wrong with me. i don’t have to wonder. it’s a gift! dan aykroyd wrote and directed this one and reveals some things that are definitely wrong with him. it was a flop when it came out but real heads see now that this is a disgusting and bizarre masterpiece. i’ll regale the audience with plenty of dumb facts about why and how the f**k it got made. hope to see you there! 🍿🎥❤️

As some of you may already know, there is terribly sad news — heartbreaking, in fact — at KALX this week.

Our long-time Music Librarian, Mike Rizzi, known on the air as Mike Burma, passed away Tuesday morning from cancer. Our hearts break for his family, friends, and colleagues.

Mike started at KALX as a student in the 1980s and never left the station. He spent decades carefully tending to our massive and always growing music library, as well as training scores of students and community volunteers in how to build and maintain that amazing and precious resource. It is doubtful that any other individual had a bigger influence on KALX and its culture — not to mention its vast library — than Mike Rizzi. Mike cared deeply about music, the station, its staff, and its listeners.

Mike was exceptionally welcoming to students and other new volunteers. He took great delight in sharing the joys of KALX and college radio with others. We will all try to follow his example as we move into the future.

We will surely have commemorations and celebrations of his life on the air in the weeks ahead. For now, let us hold each other tight as we mourn this terrible loss.

all my dumb twin peaks reface posts from 4 years ago. rip david lynch ❤️‍🔥✨being exposed to your work by the age of ten really changed me forever. thank my mom for having zero rules on what movies and tv shows i was allowed to watch as a kid! i absolutely love seeing all the posting about him today, he was so important to everyone 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Terror Tuesday and Weird Wednesday begin their 2025 season this week! You should definitely go see GREEN ROOM and DROP DEAD FRED (one of my personal all time faves) tn and tomorrow. Next Tuesday 1/14 I have the privilege of presenting Frank Henenlotter’s BASKET CASE 2. Come here me gab about how this is a great sequel and that is due in part to Annie Ross’ insane commitment to her role as Granny Ruth. It’s also just so very 1990 in style, color, and f/x and I’m very endeared to it. Long live the freaks! See ya all there. 🍿🎥😘

today was my last OWLs meeting of my last semester 😭i have had the honor of helping lead the group for 4 semesters (3 reg and 1 summer) and it has been absolutely the most rewarding part of my uc berkeley experience. today these lovelies gave me gifts and showered me with love and support. the closest and most cherished friends I’ve made in my time as a student here happened because of OWLs and and i’m so so grateful for this community. what a special group of people. love you guys so much 🥹❤️🥹❤️🥹❤️

i got to meet at the alamo in the fall of 2018 at his book signing and double feature of PHANTASM and BUBBA HO- TEP. next tues 8/13 i get to host PHANTASM II at and am excited to chat about this installment and its heavy sam raimi vibes and also the choice to cast one of my favorite blank stare actors of all time, james le gros. it’s been about a year since extended the opportunity of hosting some terror tuesdays (and occasional weird wednesday) and it may seem like a small thing but in my little world it’s big. i put a lot of energy into my program notes and it’s very fun and rewarding and gives me a space to connect with really wonderful movie nerds. so THANK YOU JAKE and ty to the homies who show up for those and give me feedback and laugh at my jokes. come out for PHANTASM II next week and then again when i host THE BLACKCOAT’S DAUGHTER on the 27th (a very fine film from LONGLEGS director oz perkins) ❤️🎥🍿🥹
