Happy Father's Day! Early awards at Iowa's Rose Festival got us back home by 730 last night. Cleaned up this morning and the rest of the day for relaxing and Brewer baseball 😀

Thanks to Megan Willier and her team for putting on a great comp and every one that showed to fill it up and get Dusty a b**g! Congrats to Hogline with the 700 pin for GC and another great cook by fellow Corn Cooker Wags Backwoods BBQ with the RGC, a tick shy of a 700 himself!

We were a bit off schedule all week, recouping from last weekend's events, but turned in a pretty good cook.

Great time this past weekend at Bring'n Home the Bacon at the Lake Neshonoc campground by West Salem, WI. The weather was beautiful, as well as the views across the lake. Thanks to Laurie Tweten and Keith Tweten for setting this up and getting a full field of awesome cooks. Thanks to all of the sponsors who helped make this one of the year's best!

Overall 3rd Place! - Our chicken is hot right now and we keep tweaking our brisket and moving up. This was our best finish of the season against 41 teams. Congrats to DB BBQ on the GC and nice meeting all of you! Also, great work and congrats to LC BBQ on the RGC!

Overall Grand Champions with a 696.5372! Congrats to Que U on the RGC. We actually tied with them which is amazing when you are going to 4 decimal points. Thanks to Jess and Rachel for coming down and helping Colie take the short cut on the pork turn-in. Less than a minute to go, closer than I try to make it but they got it there!

We've finally recovered and cleaned up enough to get ready for Iowa's Rose Festival this weekend down in State Center, IA. This is another one of our favorite comps coinciding with the Town Festival. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Late post but have to give a shout out to Francis W. Dutton for last weekend's King of the Corn competition in Ottumwa, IA! Didn't have to worry about forgetting anything with Iowa BBQ Store right across the road and Francis and team did a great job organizing! Colie Michelley and Addy came along to check out Warehouse Barbecue Co., great food as always. Great time Friday night with Ugly Baby BBQ Competition Team and Connie's taco bar! You follow that up with Wags Backwoods BBQ breakfast again in the morning, why do we even cook. Oh yeah, competition...

We tried the Turkey cook again Friday night, improvement with a 13th place finish 😀

We're taking it up a notch with 15 rounds of fiery wings that'll make your taste buds scream for mercy!

Each wing's slathered in the hottest rubs and sauces found in the store, and ready to test your mettle.

You've got 1 minute to devour each wing. No mercy, no time to waste!
Then, you chill for a minute till the next round. Oh, and no drinks in between!
Anyone making it to Round 15, there will be a 5 minute wait time to have a drink.

Whoever makes it to the farthest round will be crowned THE TOUGH ONE and will win a $100 Gift Card and a trophy (that is beyond badass).

Awesome weekend at the 25th Annual MN in May competition this past weekend! This comp has always been good to us and this year didn't disappoint. Craig Griefe and team did a heck of a job coordinating 100 teams along with a Turkey Smoke, Single Meat Ribs, and Kids Q. Alot of work and we appreciate it. Flawless ex*****on!

Speaking of starting the year hot, congrats to Hot Daddy's BBQ for the GC and Wags Backwoods BBQ on the RGC! I need your schedule so I can figure out where not to go, great cook!

We had a good weekend, 58 teams from across the midwest came to compete in the Masters division.

Finished 4th overall! (Tied for 3rd, good job on the tie break Mr. Dude's)

Our chicken had a bit more spice than normal for some reason. Still as juicy as always, but I think that spicy bite cost us a few points. We had a new plan for our brisket but forgot the butcher paper, so back to the old plan and it paid off. And can't beat the Compart pork. 😀

Thanks to U.S. Soy for partnering with MN in May to increase the purse and the notoriety of this comp. You're attendance and awesome trophy were very much appreciated! They use the chicken, rib, and pork scores and we were able to finish 3rd in their series!

Iowa State BBQ Championship is a wrap. Great job by Joe Osbrink and his crew running an excellent weekend! We were able to get down there early on Friday to have a chance to get set up and enjoy the Hot Dog Happy Hour courtesy of T-Rex BBQ and the Iowa BBQ Store. Followed that up Saturday morning with a delicious biscuits and gravy from Wags Backwoods BBQ and banana bars from Hot Daddy's BBQ. We ate well!

Congrats to Shiggin' & Grinnin' Championship BBQ Team on an excellent cook for GC and taking home the Wild Child! Also, way to go Matty Mack's for the RGC with two 1st place calls! Both of these teams collecting 700 pins for their efforts!

Our cook had some mistakes and some highlights. First comp of the season, so nice to shake the rust off and try to remember how to do it again 🤔

I've got to get my feel back on the ribs as I think they were a little over. Brisket was my issue last year so we are going with a completely new recipe this year that I apparently need to work on a bit more. We'll get there. We've got some time to practice before our next comp in May. Springer Mountain Farms still has the best, most consistent chicken on the market and the best pork on the planet is still available at Compart Family Farms!

The 1st competition of 2024 is upon us! We unveiled the new logo yesterday. Awesome ideas and artwork by my brother in law, Mike. Appreciate it!

We also installed a mini-split in the ole trailer this winter so if this wkd is like last year, with high 80's today and single digit windchills and an ice storm in the morning, will be nice and comfortable in the trailer.

So leaving the frozen tundra for the land of sunshine and rainbows, Altoona, IA. Here we come Iowa State BBQ Championship!

Here's a shoutout to Compart Family Farms! We'll be rolling with the again this year after using their amazing product to secure 3rd Place in MN Pork Team of the Year standings and 1st Place for IA Pork Team of the Year! I lost my feel on the ribs for a bit but found it in time to finish top ten at the KCBS World Invitational and Open as well as the American Royal Invitational. We got stocked up recently for 2024 and had to pick up some Pork Porterhouses, Ham, Bacon, and some of their sausage as well. Check out their online store for all of their pork products including the same competition meat packages we use. We'll see you there!

Shout out to Springer Mountain Farms for their amazing chicken! We were able to achieve 2 perfect scores and 3 1st Place Chicken calls this past competition season and plan on running it back again this year. We aren't getting any specialty product either. This is right off of the store shelves at your local Fresh Thyme Market, the same product their customers are grilling up every weekend. Vadnais Heights, MN is our location of choice and we really appreciate the help from the meat market. It's hard to get out of there without some of their fresh sausage as well. We'll see you soon!

MN BBQ Society banquet last night, great time sharing a table with Six Butt BBQ and Ash Kickin' BBQ and fun to see everyone again!

Congratulations to Hot Daddy's BBQ and Sensuous BBQ for taking Team of the Year in the Masters and Backyard divisions! Great years for these two teams and well deserved.

Thanks to Smokin’ Bros Rubs & Seasonings for donating a basket we were lucky enough to win! An awesome cooler full of all their great Rubs and a GMG Grilling kit. Think we'll be trying the steak rub tonight along with the garlic-parm on some popcorn 😀 Joe's a correctional officer and they donate a portion of their proceeds to the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation. They were just awarded the Lifetime Sponsorship Award after donating over $5k! We'll be getting these Rubs into our program 😋

2023 Comp Season is wrapped up for us. We got to hit the woods this past weekend and plan on spending some more time there hoping Addy can bag her first buck soon!

We ramped up a little bit more this year with 14 competitions and had a year with a lot of firsts. First time competing in Iowa BBQ Society, first time cooking the American Royal World Series of Barbecue , first time cooking the KCBS World Championships, and first time meeting Tuffy Stone, who's someone I've admired for a long time!

We were lucky enough to get a GC at King of the Corn in Ottumwa, Iowa, which was an awesome weekend with Buddha. We got our first 1st place Pork call at MN in May, with 59 teams competing in a monsoon. We were able to land three 1st place Chicken calls. We ended up as Pork team of the year in Iowa, which is known for Pork. Our average score improved by 4 points over last year so we're hoping we can keep improving on that next year. I'm most proud of our consistency. We're gaining and we'll work on some tweaks again this winter.

Thanks for the support and help from my wife, Colie Michelley, and daughter, Addy, couldn't do it without you! Thanks to Jess and Rachel for the help!

Last comp of the year last weekend at Bring'n Home the Bacon #2. Laurie and Keith do a great job and it was great to see everyone one more time before we hunker down for the winter 😀 Congrats to Ash Kickin' BBQ on the GC and Can Country Outlaw BBQ on the RGC!

We had a pretty good weekend starting off with Colie's 14th place white chicken chili Friday night. Thanks to Wade and Tracy Lambert for helping dial in the flavor. Apparently, adding noodles makes it a goulash but I got to eat it all weekend and #1 in my book!

I think the dust has finally settled on the 2023 American Royal of BBQ. I'll leave out some of the details but we had a great time attending it for the first time. It was amazing to see all of the top teams in the country, and some top international teams as well. Some of these teams you just read about so it was a fun experience to finally compete against them and see where we stack up. Big Thanks to Jess, Rachel, and Colie for all of the help this weekend!

Again, the temps soared in Kansas. We battled through and were able to put together some pretty good boxes. This competition was held at Kansas Motor Speedway and we were set up down in the south corner. Jess and Colie had quite a few 1500 ft walks through 1000's of people for turn-ins. Thanks for taking care of those!

Thanks to Blues Hog for the party on Thursday and to Ash Kickin' BBQ for the TV to watch the Packers get their tales handed to them. Always fun to watch a Packer game with a bunch of Viking fans!🤮 Also, thanks to Snake River Farms for the delicious Pork Sandwiches on Friday!

Saturday was the Invitational - all 211 competitors had won a GC prior
Chicken - 140th (tried the weird style) Springer Mountain Farms Fresh Thyme Market
Ribs - 18th! - Compart Family Farms - We got to walk at our first Royal!
Pork - 133rd - Compart Duroc
Brisket - 102nd - Snake River
Overall we finished 85th out of 211. Our first Royal and we hadn't cooked since mid-August so very happy with the finish.

Congrats to FATED BBQ on the GC and DamnFine Beef & Swine Competition BBQ Team on the RGC!

The Open was on Sunday - 488 Teams, Open to All - By far the biggest competition we have ever competed in - the largest in the world!

Chicken - 82nd - Springer Mountain Chicken from Fresh Thyme
Ribs - 195th - Compart Duroc - Best Pork on the Planet
Pork - 26th - Compart Duroc - Wild Child Call!!
Brisket - 234th - Snake River

Overall - 56th out of 488!

Congrats to Janky Leg BBQ on the GC and MN's own Machete Boys BBQ on the RGC. You guys handled your business well. Couldn't imagine being in the position you were put in but you guys are pure class!

Colie made a great dessert that Jim Compart thinks she should take to market. It was amazing, finishing 127th out of 185! We turned in beans as well that took 48th out of 221.

Midwest BBQ really performed well for this World Competition to show that the northern states can cook! Matty Mack's from Iowa brought home first place with a perfect 180 for the Turkey Smoke! Wags Backwoods BBQ out of IA got to walk both days and took home 5th in the Open. Gothic Town Grillers from IA was walking along with Hot Daddy's BBQ, RUB MY RACK BBQ, and aforementioned Machete Boys and Ash Kickin BBQ out of MN. I'm sure I'm forgetting several so congrats to everyone that heard their name and thanks for a great weekend!

In a couple of week we'll have our last competition of the season at Bring'n Home the Bacon. Looking forward to seeing everyone one last time for this season. Good Luck to Wags Backwoods BBQ, Smokey D's BBQ, Hot Daddy's BBQ and Team Crawford competing at The Jack!

Today was the KCBS World Championship Invitational, still hot... started the day with a great breakfast from Wags Backwoods BBQ, thanks Jason!

We thought we screwed up our chicken and that we had great pork, apparently not.

16th Chicken Springer Mountain Farms Fresh Thyme Market won the wild child cash payout!
7th Ribs Compart Family Farms got to walk at the world championships!

12th Brisket ! Walked again :)

23rd overall- heck of a day. Congrats to everyone that heard their name. Alot of the teams we compete against regularly got to walk and I think mn/ia/wi represented well at the worlds. We've got some time off now until the Royal. Heading home and hopefully lower temps :)

Holy hell, yesterday was hot! Looking forward to getting back to Wisconsin. We cooked the KCBS World Championship Open. Got a 9th place call in ribs, which has been a tough category for us this year. 34th overall out of 90 teams. Pretty good day and Colie won a smoker designed by Kelly Wertz from 4 Legs Up BBQ!
