Here's a pic of our VIPs that showed up over Spring Break. Love it when my family is together. My kids help me plan menus and we all cook together. Since they were all very little. Since I was a teen. My Grandma always had me in the kitchen helping, wether at the house or with her at work. Soon after I moved in with her she had some health problems that kept her out of a commercial kitchen, and she raised me off her disability/SSI, foodstamps/commodities. So around 300-400.00 a month. Everything, I mean everything was budgeted. So we always ate at the house. We might as well been a commercial kitchen. Everyone wanted to come to our house to eat!! I remember anyone and everyone would talk about Grandma's cooking. When people knew she was bringing food to the potlucks, they'd start making sure they knew where Shirley's food was, so they could get some. I didn't figure it out till I got older, that what everyone could taste in her cooking, wasn't the right balance of seasonings, or the fresh herbs, it wasn't the bacon fat, or special way to get the yeast right to make the perfect loaf of fresh bread... Btw, you could smell that fresh bread as soon as I got off at the bus stop all the way down the street...The main ingredient she used was Love. When you put love into cooking, you can't just taste it, you can feel it. You can taste the passion. That's a gift Grandma passed me that I cherish to this day. Although It's tough, ( kinda not really, LOL!) I've decided to stop the business side of my culinary life. Times have changed. I've missed out on so much life, chasing the wrong things. I want to slow down, and enjoy what time is left, as this world keeps getting crazier. I decided this a looong time ago. We were gonna try and do a few caterings here and there and some events, but yeah.(Haters)... When I cook from now on, it's because you're family. Family isn't always blood related! I've been able to meet cool ass people along the way! Seen some cool ass s**t as well(what I can remember). 🤪 I'm going to be keeping the page up. I still wanna show what good stuff we throw down, and just because I don't want to cook for a living anymore, doesn't mean I won't pop up in a kitchen somewhere. That's just something you can't takeaway, Heard!! Remember when chasing your dreams to make it worth it. Friends and family come and go You can replace, money and things. What you can never get back is time! Enjoy it around people you love!
