So..My family at Cheers for the Years were so happy to be able to celebrate today my dad’s birthday….my children’s papa..and my children’s Oma, who they all loved dearly.
My dad, Papa, would have turned 100 this year, and Allen’s mum ….Oma…would have been 99 years old today. My dad often joked that Elsa, Allen’s mum was such a young thing, although only one year younger. They both shared such heartfelt moments together, discussing war time moments.

We were blessed to have such wonderful and caring parents. And our children also were blessed to have the most amazing and loving grandparents. Thank you Oma and Papa.
Today we Celebrate Your Life.
We will never forget you.

Leaving a Legacy Behind

What is a Legacy?
A Memory?
An Image?
A reflection on our life gone by and a life to share.

Leaving a Legacy behind is one of the most precious commodities we can give to our Loved Ones.
Our children, our grandchildren, our family and friends.
What could be more precious than leaving behind your story.
A story being told by you, the person who wrote it.
The Author.

My father as a young soldier in the Second World War, left behind his Legacy to his family in a totally different manner that can be done now.
His recollection of landing on the Beaches of Normandy after the slaughter, as being part of the Follow Up Team and an important contribution to the Morse Code Squad, he and his men did what they did, the true British Way, set a steady line to move forward, before embarking on their task at hand.

Amidst the total mayhem they encountered on that beach in Normandy, they dug a hole in the sand, boiled water, made a cup of tea, and moved forward.
A cup of tea for my father fuelled his ability to cure and put right any ailment that he had encountered. He had encountered many.

He left all those memories on paper which was found in a trunk shortly after his death at age 85. As so many Veterans, he never shared with his five children about what really happened during the Second World War, but the stories he did share with us were certainly entertaining, but never really answered our question..”Daddy, what did you do in the War?”

The twenty handwritten pages that were found in that special trunk, finally answered our question, and ended in saying, “So that my children, that is what I did in the War.”

What a find.
What a memory.
What a gift.
What a Legacy.

Sharing a Legacy.
Giving a Legacy.
Holding onto your Legacy and passing it on.
That’s what truly matters.

A Legacy.
The most important commodity we can ever own.
Whether you want to prepare your Legacy before you pass, or have family and friends prepare it for you, it is one of the most magical things we can share with all our family and friends, passing on the baton from one family member to many others.

We are so fortunate that in this day and age we can do that in so many wonderful ways.
Movies, slideshows, speeches - all that can be recorded, set in history and be passed forward to future generations.
What a beautiful thing. Our children, our grandchildren, our family and friends all get to hold onto this memory of you.
They will all continue to pass the baton and ensure that your Legacy traverses through life.

We no longer just have to write it all down in paper as my father did, but we can share slideshows, music, memories and all the best things we enjoyed in life by creating a Celebration of Life and recording and saving every touching moment.
