Aloha ē!
Does anyone have a source for hinahina? I am helping and others making horse lei and lei for the riders representing Kāho'olawe for the parade on April 23rd!

We are still in need of the staple flower to represent this island! HINAHINA

Here are some screensot Google images... if anyone has a source for some of these, just enough for a couple of lei po'o or more if possible, we would greatly appreciate it!

We are happy to pay and pay to ship to BI, since hinahina is more prevalent on islands like Moloka'i, also in Oahu and Maui.

Kalaunu is a loyal friend. They have surrounded me during this time of lei creation. I love everything about them! The colors, smell, shapes, texture, sturdiness, hosting abilities 🐛🦋…
This lei has a very subtle but fresh scent of the crown flower and the pōhinahina💜
On this Lei po’o I used:
Purple Kalaunu, mini crown flower, pōhinahina, hapū fern, moa, waiwaiole, uluhe fern, song of India

I have a special place in my heart for kou because I grew up with one in my backyard, where I climbed its branches and relaxed in its shade.
While this tree can reach heights of 30-40 feet, it is easily pruned and shaped between 15-25 feet to fit into a backyard.
They are relatively quick growing when they are young, so kou is a great option for creating shade quickly!
They produce beautiful orange trumpet-shaped flowers that are prized by lei-makers.

Kou is one of the few deciduous native Hawaiian plants, so it will at some point drop most of its leaves. In addition to the leaves, the tree flowers throughout the year, and eventually produces small round fruits that drop en masse.

I had such a blast putting this special piece for a very special friend on his Birthday 🥳💚🤍💜
Also… I need to work on my ‘hilo’ on this type on Lei.
Just like anything else, practice makes perfect 🌿
I used Ilima seed pods, Kalaunu and the mini Crown Flower. On the bow: kupukupu fern and pōhinahina seeds 💜

🌿🌺HI'IAKA-I-KAPUA-'ENA'ENA is the Hawaiian Goddess of lei making. 🌺🌿

She is 🌋 Pele's older sister and the mother of Laka, Goddess of the hula.

Besides making lei and 'awa for Pele, Hi'iaka-i-kapu-'ena'ena was also responsible for the rosy glow seen on mountains and clouds in the early morning.

Her name means "Hi'iaka of the burning clouds," and some of her alternate names show her other associations, such as HI'IAKA-I-PUA-'ENA'ENA (Hi'iaka of the burning flower) and HI'IAKA-I-PU-'ENA'ENA (Hi'iaka of the burning hills).

Another of her names, KUKU-'ENA-I-KE-AHI-HO'OMAU-HONUA (beating hot in the perpetual earth fire), is used when she acts as a guide to lost travelers.
