I try and substitute as much as I can throughout my floristry with home grown flowers and foliage. Something I've delved into on a larger scale this year at my allotment and absolutely fell in love with!

Why is it important to me?

- The carbon footprint. Imported flowers are generally grown in Holland but can regularly come from as far as Kenya, Columbia and Ecuador among other places right across the globe!
- The chemicals used. When flowers are travelling this far to reach suppliers, they are sprayed with chemicals to try and prolong their life. As an organic grower myself, this is something I'd like to avoid as much as possible.
- Quality. When your flowers are right on your doorstep in a thriving, natural environment, I just believe they are better! Better for the customer, better for the environment.
- Seasonality. One thing I love about growing is how it opens your eyes to what every season has to offer in nature. This is something I love to reflect in the flowers and materials I use.

Which is why I'm super happy to have found another local grower in West Melton Flowers who provided me with some absultely beautiful blooms for a recent wedding. (See last image)
