December 16 marks the one-year anniversary of Ka Joma’s passing at the age of 83. Today, we pay tribute to Ka Joma by honoring his impact on the Filipino people’s national democratic revolution and his influence on people’s struggles and national liberation struggles worldwide.
In 2007, Ka Joma wrote his well-known poem, “Stages of My Life,” depicting periods of his life as seasons that charted his political development and dedication to the revolutionary cause.
We invite you to write your own stanzas to express how Ka Joma inspired the stages of your life, your consolidation, and your relationship to the Filipino people’s struggle for liberation. Please share them with us using the hashtag and tagging .
Here are two examples:
“We study the lessons of your life,
We grow and bloom among the masses,
The seeds that you and others have sown,
Nurtured and watered by the peoples’ noble sacrifice,
In the spring of our lives,
We learn and heed the calls of history,
It is our great mission and your legacy,
To carry the revolution to its inevitable victory.”
In your stanza, consider:
🔻What are the lessons you learned from Ka Joma?
🔻What season of your life are you in right now? What seasons have you experienced?
🔻What did you observe, experience, or study that awakened/heightened your class consciousness?
You may also use this formula/template:
In the season of my life,
I [verb/action word] the
[situation/condition],
[Expression of internal change/call to action]
Mabuhay, Ka Joma! Ka Joma Lives!
