[WHat makes a BOX larp?]

With three days to go until submissions close, we thought we'd extract a bit of the submissions form to get you thinking about what it is that makes a BOX larp, a BOX larp.

* New larper friendly There will be at least one larp in each slot that is suitable for new larpers.

* Easy to pick up There should be no requirements for players before the day. Pregame workshop is fine/expected.

* Suit the venue It should be a single-room larp that will fill one or more of the spaces available. Anything beyond tables and chairs you should be able to provide yourself.

* Specific participant numbers Suitable for either 30, 15, 10 or 5 participants. We need to fit these to balance the number of attendees across the day.

* Variety We want a range of themes, genres and forms, and will be choosing with this in mind.

* Four hours long Including everything from participants entering the room to the last bit of any debrief. This is a hard limit. Shorter may be okay, but too short might be unsatisfying for participants.

That's it! Other than these outlines, we want you to go wild :)

[BOX - what happened last time?]

Well, a lot! We had a total of 8 larps. These vastly ranged in style from

We had mafia-style families backstabbing, politicking, and playing games.

We had a group of writers discussing their writing.

We had whole new worlds created without words.

We had tense negotiations, flamboyant professors, parents despairing over their children's grades.

We had dastardly criminals getting together to get their heist ready.

That's just some of the vibes off the top of a head.

What we're saying is, yes there's genre space for everything. Submissions close Sunday!

[Why run a larp at BOX?]

People organise larps for lots of reasons, and we want to give you the space to organise or create what you want (within limits). With that in mind, why would you want to run a larp at BOX?

To run without the admin of finding participants and venue. We sort all that.

To try something with a bit of backup - we’re here to help and backstop you if you need it

To give something entirely experimental a go

To test and enjoy something creative - a chunk of the participants at larp festivals are always keen to try something new and creative

It’s incredibly rewarding, and we’re here for you

With all that on the go, there’s still time to pitch until Sunday 10th August. Got an idea? PM it over and we can chat, or look to the submission form down below

[BOX objectives]

Blast from the past, here are the objectives for BOX. We're pretty happy we hit these first time around, but we like to revisit these things every now and again. As always, no digs at any other styles, just what we're trying to do!

Objectives:

* To create a short-form larp festival in the North of England

* To make a larp festival that is accessible to new larpers and organisers

* To create a space where people have a chance to explore different types of larp

* To make a larp festival that is financially accessible

* To organise a small festival with a broad variety of larps

* To avoid needless inaccessibility and be as inclusive as we possibly can, whilst being consistent with our other objectives

* To be hella queer-friendly

If you’re interested in organising something, there’s still time. Link to submission form in comments.

Hi folks!

We’re extending the deadline for submitting a larp you’d like to run by two weeks.

But why?

Well, firstly we haven’t quite got as many submissions as we’d like. Whilst the main organisers can run things, we’d like to get as much variety as possible, just like last time! This is particularly true at the larger end of things.

Secondly, we’ve realised we haven’t communicated quite so much as first time about values, how it works, and so on. We’ll fix that over this next two weeks. If you’re considering whether you might want to run something or create something, please do feel free to reach out and chat it over.

Let’s do it!

Interested in running a larp at BOX? There's still time to send us your pitch for a game!

We've had a snoop at the submissions we've had so far, and we're so excited for them to bring the festival to life 🩵 At the moment we're especially keen to get some more pitches for games for 5 or 30 players, but please do send your game over even if it doesn't fit either of those sizes

Submissions close at 10pm next Sunday 27th July

🩷 BOX IS BACK - CALL FOR LARPS OPEN 🖤

BOX: Northern Larp Festival will return on 14th February 2026, this time in Leeds, and we’re looking for Larps to fill the day!

Submission form: https://forms.gle/ZtSrvJZtopR3AQ4p7

We’re open to Larps for 5, 10, 15 or 30 participants, as long as they can fit neatly into a four hour slot. You could bring a game that’s run before, or something totally brand new. We’re especially keen to programme a wide range of styles and genres ✨

There’s more info on our selection priorities in the form, which is open for submissions until 10pm, 27th July

More on tickets and other logistics to follow. You can read about the practicalities and access notes for our lovely new venue here: https://boxlarpfestival.wixsite.com/boxlarpfest/practical

We're so looking forward to seeing your larps and yourselves - whether again or for the first time!

[BOX and the future - pleads for venue]

So tl;dr, we want to run BOX again.

Unfortunately, our venue is not going to be available as Theatre Deli Sheffield is closing down. So... help?

If you've got any ideas, thoughts, dreams or knowledge, here are our criteria. Let's goooooo!

What do we need from a venue?
* At LEAST 3 spaces for larps (if 3 quite big)
* Either a quiet room or a communal space (both is better)
* Level access
* Toilets
* Accessible by public transport
* In the North of England.
* Near enough to somewhere to obtain sustenance
* Exclusive hire of the venue, or at least a measure of privacy for the larp rooms
