But we LOVE bats and don’t think they are scary or creepy, and we are finding out lots about these ancient creatures.

Tips for planning a party for younger kids…

🌈 Keep it short; 1 or 2 hours max. Parties are exciting and also overwhelming - it’s best to go out on a high!

🌈 Don’t expect smaller kids to all sit down at eat at the same time. They may, but if not just embrace the chaos.

🌈 Be clear on the invite if you expect parents and caregivers to stay for the party. In my experience, it’s pretty common to stay with kids under 5 but it’s always nice to have clear guidance.

🌈 If planning games and activities, short simple games and crafts work best especially if there’s things they can explore and do if they fancy rather than trying to get everyone interested in participating in game all at the same time. In my experience, the only exception is a game of pass-the-parcel; kids will literally drop anything to join the circle for that game!

🌈 GET HELP! Setting up for a party and then managing the ensuing chaos is more than a job for even the most super party host. Recruit people who are confident dealing with younger kids or happy to get on with tasks such as setting up the food without too much guidance.

Borrowing a party kit for 30 kids saves a minimum of 180 disposable items from going to landfill. That’s quite a lot for just one party!

Party kits are designed to be used again and again, each time avoiding more waste.
They contain reusable plates, cups and lots more.

Planning a 'waste less' party? Look no further.....
Here's the waste that we had left from our children's birthday party on the weekend. Everything else was reduced, recycled or composted.
We used the Waste Less Yatton party kit for hire through the Party Kit Network and a jungle themed party box from Packaway Parties. Thanks to Frome Eco Party Kit for their great posts on reducing food waste at children's parties.
There were 25 children + adults and we served pizza, fruit, pinwheels, veggie sticks + dips and snacks. The birthday cake 🎂 was homemade chocolate brownies 😋.
It was a bit crazy (actually completely wild!! 🐆🐒🦍🦏) at times and sooooo very hot 🥵 but the children had a great time! 🥳🎉🎊

290,506 items!

We've just finished our annual impact audit. This is where we count up the total number of single-use items avoided by our party kits.

For this year (Aug 2022 to July 2023) we have logged a whopping 290k items 🥳

That's 290k single-use items which haven't been bought and binned because people switched to reusable tableware and borrowed a party kit.

Since we started tracking our impact in 2020 we've now logged over 686,000 single-use items avoided by party kits.
