This class is suited for beginners with no dance experience to advanced beginners.

It can also be suited to intermediate dancers who would like to review the basics and build a more solid foundation, or those who want to learn a different role (lead or follow).

The countdown begins!

While Saturday passes are sold out (please DM us for the address if you bought passes), a few spots remain for Sunday!

On Sunday, Rafa will teach sequences and techniques from two styles of forró, roots and universitário.

This is a great opportunity to dip your toes into forró, if you’re new to it, or build on what you already know, if you’re more experienced.

Remember that Rafa is visiting from Brazil and will only be in Washington D.C. this weekend.

The event cover is $13 and funds go towards supporting the amazing artists of Vavá.

Boa tarde! Reminder: Forró DC Workshops w/ Rafael Wilker: Sep 9-10

As you know, we don’t have regular forró classes in DC, but we do have socials organized by us and our community.

So this is a great opportunity to learn musicality and some new moves you can use on the dance floor.

The workshop on musicality on Sep 9 will take place at one of our forrozeira’s beautiful porch at her house, where we will also throw a party under the stars and light a bonfire. The address will only be disclosed to those who purchase at least one pass (Sat or Sun, or both days).

On Sep 10 we will have 3 hours of workshops, where Rafa will teach sequences to boost our dance vocabulary. That will take place at the Brazilian American Cultural Center at 1pm. We will then head to Meridian park to watch the drum circle, chat, and dance.

Thank you, Educarte, Zezeh, + Bossa, for featuring Forró along with Samba not only in your concert but also in the class. It was great to get some dances in with forrozeiros in the end.

I will try setting up another Forró in the Park next week (either Wednesday or Thursday), and, this time, factor in that I might need to wait 2-3 hours after the start time for dancers to show up. Hope to see you on the dance floor soon!
