I wholeheartedly believe in being a lifelong learner - no matter what you do! Last night I took a centerpiece class at the shop of a florist I deeply admire - - and had so much fun! I’m a total sponge when it comes to different techniques or styles - a new angle to consider, the placement of certain textures, etc. I always walk away feeling refreshed and excited to apply my new knowledge!

Happiest of holidays from R&J. May the next few days be filled with joy and warmth and memories to last a lifetime! ♥️

Loved having a bouquet bar at my bridal shower last weekend! Not only was it the perfect way to infuse my love of flowers into the day - everyone who came loved the activity! We re-used candle hurricanes as vases, ordered the craft paper from Amazon, used twine we already had on hand, and I ordered everything through my amazing wholesaler in Columbus ! Even if you don’t have a wholesale license, you can easily create the same impact with florals from Trader Joe’s, Costco, or your local grocery store! 💐 And - this office smelled AMAZING all day!

I haven’t played with flowers in a while, but I just ordered some for my own bridal shower next weekend and one of my favorites is on the list! These insane coral charm peonies that scream SUMMER 🌺🌺 can’t wait to show you all the fun that we have planned for the shower - you’ll all agree it’s very 💐 until then, I’ll leave you with this bridal bouquet that is bursting with gorgeous color 😍

Maybe I’m giving away my secrets, but I haven’t done a mock-up like this in a while and I’m feeling my creative juices flowing - so I figured why not!

I’m a super visual person. Very much measure 500 times cut once (just ask my fiancé 😂🙈). So mocking up floral combos before ordering is my approach to designing all of my work! I need to see the colors and textures play off each other. Think about height and weight. Understand where I have free flowing stems and where I have some rigidity. I mix and match until I think I have what I want!

Everyone has a different creative approach, but this definitely works for me. I mean I’m doing it with home furnishings too! 😂

Speaking of a new home, WE MOVED!

R&J is now located in southeastern Indiana. Lawrenceburg to be exact! I am still serving the greater Cincinnati area, but a few things are changing:
- I will not be able to accommodate last minute orders anymore do to being located much farther away from my wholesalers.
- I will only be taking orders with 2 weeks notice, this allows me to plan and be efficient with my time!
- I am still taking event and wedding orders (starting in Sept. 2021) and of course require a few months notice for those as well.

I can’t wait to show you my new workshop setup as it comes together and look forward to continuing to provide beautiful flowers to you all! 💕

I wanted to share one of my favorite things about being a small business owner - visual proof of my personal growth and development.

I think a lot of people believe that in order to “jump into” business ownership, you have to be a pro at what you do. You’ve already mastered your craft and that’s why you’re ready to take the leap.

That cannot be more F A L S E.

I knew nothing about floral design other than the fact that I thought flowers were gorgeous and that I kinda had an eye for them but otherwise, nada!

Starting out, I YouTube’d techniques, followed a million designers on social media to see how they expressed themselves through flowers, took classes, and most importantly - I just did it. I just put flowers in my hands and played with them till I learned things like proportions, colors, weight, balance, prepping flowers, etc.

I love having so many pictures of all the things I’ve created because I can literally see my growth over time! Trying new techniques that work (and don’t 😂) and just developing along the way!

Perfection is impossible. The courage to start isn’t. If you have a dream, jump in! Give yourself grace, and recognize your growth over time! Before you know it you will become the person you followed on Instagram all those months or years ago.

Seeing these images back to back is proof it just takes time, patience, consistency, and a strong passion for what you’re doing ❤️

The weather is starting to turn towards Spring and this time of year always reminds of all of the spring flowers that start to pop up out of the soil after a longggg, cold winter.

Anemones, a fan favorite, can be planted in both the Spring or the Fall, depending on your local climate. Ironically, these flowers are not terribly needy in terms of planting and growing, there are many ways to do it successfully - but they are one of the MOST delicate flowers to work with once they bloom and are taken out of the ground.

Did you know that florists take that into account when planning events? If a delicate flower like an anemone is desired, we often have to over-order to guarantee we have enough “quality” blooms to fulfill our designs, because these will show up wilted, brown, or broken. I’ve learned a few cool tricks to keep them bright and alive for an event. If you’re ever curious, shoot me a message!

This little car cutie has me longing for Spring!

Just an update on how things are going over here. I will not be taking on any weddings until September 2021. I am planning my own wedding and have a number of close friends who are in a similar phase of life and I want to give time and space to enjoy and celebrate these next few months together. That being said I am still taking a la carte orders as needed and will be opening the wedding books for Sept. 2021 and beyond.

Looking back on 2020 I want to remember the moments where I felt the warmth and joy of friends, family, and flowers. The moments we made the most of, despite the circumstances. I want to remember the beauty that comes out of experiencing and overcoming challenge - personally, professionally, spiritually, emotionally. 2020 was a hell of a year, but I am so grateful for every single day of it. I hope everyone wakes up tomorrow, ready to tackle the day with your head held high and your heart open to all the great things that are headed your way ✨

I’ve been reflecting a bit on this past year (as I’m sure many of us are!) and I think one thing that stuck out to me that I want to carry into 2021 is: SIMPLIFY. We were all forced to basically overnight, simplify our lives. For me, it was one of the biggest blessings of this year. Sure I miss traveling and going out with friends and all of the downsides of simplicity. But I also appreciate the intentionality and focus it brought to my life.

Simple is also beautiful. It lets the true beauty of people and places and songs and....you guessed it - flowers, shine! Just like these simple, beautiful table accents we used at a wedding this fall ✨

When asked about my style or my approach to bridal florals, I often tell brides that their wedding day is about them. All attention should be on the bride and groom, the family and the friends. I love flowers (duh), but I don’t want them to be the first thing people see when the bride walks down the aisle. I want all eyes on HER and her groom.

My flowers are meant to compliment and elevate a bridal look. Not steal the show! That’s the couples job 😉

I just adore how this elegant white and green combo did just that. Like a trusty side kick, the flowers highlighted the detail in the brides stunning belt, and brought just a hint of contrast to her beautiful dress.

A still image simply did not do these moody purple carnations justice - so a video it is! It’s interesting how many new skills you have to pick up when you start your own business (um, taxes? Yuck!) that are completely outside the realm of your core service. Playing with light and backgrounds and movement in an attempt to capture and do justice to my floral arrangements continues to be a fun challenge!
