The Eatbonix team had the honor of preparing a meal for the recent victims of fires in Hamden where over 40 people were displaced from their homes. We are grateful to have been able to offer this small gesture and want to thank everyone who is helping to support these families.

We had an amazing team helping to make preparations for today including Chef Jenna and Chef Bjorn, ConnCAT Chef Lauren from Pearl Wine Bar, all the volunteers who served the food, and Karen and Nick Giannuzi for their generous contributions.

Thanks to Karimah Mickens Adrian Webber Mayor Lauren Garrett and State Rep Robin Porter and Mary Welander for all you do for the citizens of Hamden and CT.

Calling out to all small business owners and entrepreneurs in CT. We have been invited to a town hall hosted by Congresswoman Johana Hayes tomorrow at 6pm. Send me your thoughts on the American Rescue Plan and how it could help your business and I will do my best to express.

I plan to share the following:

1. Funding through the restaurant recovery plan that takes into account the amount of personal assets used to startup the business or debt that needs to be paid through the time period of the pandemic beginning in March of 2020.

2. Calculations for grants/loans through SBA that consider assisting small businesses in the startup phase 1-3 years through the restaurant recovery plan with a calculation of lost revenue plus debt incurred over the course of the pandemic due to inability to pay business operating costs such as rent, utilities, payroll, credit balances for equipment and inventory and costs associated with safety protocols and PPP.

3. Change the approval requirement from a minimum credit score to the number of years in business for EIDL loans. Minimum credit score requirements hurt minority communities and entrepreneurs. But yet they say they want to provide assistance to these groups as a priority.

4. Offer grants through the restaurant recovery plan that help woman and minority owned businesses with the same ease as was awarded to large corporations in the first draft of the PPP loans.

5. Consider equitable factors like number of years in business versus racially biased factors, such as credit scores and debt to income ratios, when determining if a small business is eligible for a loan.

6. Restrict credit card companies from imposing penalty interest rates of over 29%. It took me a year of phone calls to finally get through to Capital One’s management to plead with them to forgive a 3 day late payment that would result in 9 more months of a penalty interest rate. I was paying $200 dollars a month in interest and this resulted in not being able to afford a minimum payment.

The last three years have been amazing and we thank you for all your love and support as we continue building the Eatbonix brand! Some of our favorite moments have been catering your events, preparing dinners for your private parties and celebrating with friends and family.
