ALBUM REVIEW - Ness - Flesh Of The Gods

Following acclaimed 'Trancemigration' album comes 'Flesh Of The Gods', upping the stakes from simple trance-revivalism to something much more otherworldly and Lovecraftian. An eight-track album in sprawling movements, it forms yet another expression of Ness' mission to express trance in a context fitting for techno - albeit, this one operates in a much darker mood, drawing on mythology and transcendentalism - or, should we say, trance-sendenetalism?

Also known as Mod21, the multi-talented artist blends a deep minimal palette of experimental, textural and often cinematic soundscapes, fused and wonderfully refined to create a sound that’s very much his own. Catering for club and ambient realms, this Italian born, Swiss based artist began his portfolio off with early success. Landing his first two releases on Munich’s illustrious Prologue, followed by labels such as Semantica, Polegroup and others alike. As the creator of his own label “21″, Manuele uses the platform as a further extension for his own artistic expression.

The support that we are getting from you guys all over the world is massive and it's more than we expected. This is really crazy! We would like to thank from the bottom of our hearts each and every one of you for the love that you are sending to us.

The current situation is stressful for everybody and we believe that at this point is crucial to stay calm and remain positive and open-minded, despite the events that happened a few days ago and are still happening. We are deeply sorry for everyone who lost their place of enormous freedom under the Sun. If there is anything that we can do to help the individuals who are under restrain please do not hesitate to contact us. We will try to help as much as we can.

Our place also lost a part of the facilities and is like all other places in Rog facing an uncertain future. However, the collective of Koncertna dvorana Rog did not lose all hopes. We believe that our spirit is stronger that any bulldozer and our love for each other only grows stronger. At the same time we feel deeply sorry that the current establishment did not recognise the value of this place for the community of Ljubljana and Slovenija in general. At least not in a legal way.

For us this does not represent an ending an any way since we like to face challenges in life and we strongly trust in the talent of artists, curators and other creators of Ljubljana's underground scene. We promise you that we will continue with our mission, which is to deliver the most amazing, unique and groundbreaking musical acts from all over the globe. Our work is not defined by a specific place or time as it's timeless, has the capacity to adapt and we are used to work in impossible conditions, although we are aware that the unique spirit and the atmosphere of our venue is almost impossible to find anywhere else. In the worst case scenario we will do our best to reinvent ourselves and try to find a new place. Our inner-strenght is enormous and music is what we live for.

We would like to thank all the individuals who shared their support in public and on social media. Thanks to all the collectives from our big sister Metelkova, to whom we looked up to. You support is priceless. Thanks to all crews and artists who are publishing photos and memories that they've captured in our venue. Big thank to all the institutions for your support letters. We do not exist without you.

In following days we will start sharing memories on our FB wall and Ig account. We will be immensely grateful if you will send us pictures, videos, posters or and kind of material. We will post it!

Let's share whit this world how much love is in our hearts and what a tremendous loss it would be for Ljubljana if we start losing these kind of places.

For all of you who intend to march on the streets in the name of love for art, music, LGBT movement, antiracism and free places like ROG, we would like to propose to you to march peacefully. We are against any violence and hate speech. Let our love be louder and stronger then the machinery that is taking down old facilities.

We will be tremendously grateful if you will share this post or share memories from our place.

ALBUM SUGGESTION | Sigha - metabolism | Token Records

has been exploring the relationship between functionality & high art in the Techno genre for some time now.

Metabolism is a beautiful story about this certain powerful musicality beyond any acute attention to form and structure. Delicate emotive leads sit squarely and comfortably in the foreground, and build towards rapturous crescendos that are crisp and omnipresent throughout the mix.

Every track on the album build up a certain energy that meets other energies and altogether create a fascinating universe of sounds, dramatic harmonies, meeting certain dull, hypnotic and meditative melodic lines, a rain of sound and noise that flows constantly, adjusting its influent tide in accordance with mystical and unknown ghost sounds coming from a world that doesn't exist. Since imagination is the main tool in order to fully indulge this music, I strongly suggest to let your mind breath and free yourself of any prejudices.

Metabolism is a complex techno album which can gather many different types of emotions and energies, but one thing is sure: romanticism is not dead, not at all!

Michal's passion for techno music started playing with vinyls. The heavy sounds extracted from the black plastic disc inspired him to do more, to go a step further and create his own music. Since then he experimented with a lot of genres of electronic music, to find his own path. He sought inspiration in crowded cities and the correlation of nature with industrialized society. Today, his performances are consisting entirely of the original productions, where you will find a rich mixture of dense industrial atmosphere, off beats sounds and dub techno elements driven by energetic kick. Mysterious DJ and producer Cleric (real name Jorden Hodgetts) is active since 2012 and has had numerous releases on big labels like Arts & Figure. Besides that, he is the   label boss. Not very big on biographies but famous for producing a sharp, atmospheric sound, he describes his music as a way to transfer emotions onto others.

The cohesive array of depth charged devices that Anthony Linell has produced is formidable. From his opening statements as Abdulla Rashim on his early label of the same name, right through to his recent work that puts his aliases aside, there is a robust and rigorous intent that compounds the elemental strategies of techno's models to apprehend his singular vision.

Presiding over Stockholm's Northern Electronics label with Varg (Jonas Rönnberg), Linell dispenses with mechanisms of attention on all fronts. Marked by an indefatigable self-reliance, the label presents exactly what it means to display, and no more. Carving an idiosyncratic platform for his music is as great of a warning as there could be that Linell's leveraging little toward the benefit of the audience. By his measure, the familiarity and comfort of contemporary techno is stripped back to its rushing heart, the senses left tailgating the strobe in a fit of intuition over decision. The greater this is exposed the colder it gets, and its in these extremes that Linell's caustic rhythmic precision hits. Live, it comes off as a galvanizing strike from the outside; analysing the room as a DJ, it's a case of being pursued through the dark.

Just as the brevity of Linell's output in the eyes of techno is exalted as it is brought into focus, the background to this blurs as you start to decipher his other projects. Lundin Oil skirts the fringes of noise and experimental music, and in collaboration with Varg as Ulwhednar, this is perhaps even more pronounced.

Purposively ricocheting between the techno world and experimental electronic music, Linell forges a distinct passage that gathers the aesthetically uncompromising motifs and missions from across this spectrum. It's this combination and resolve that's brought Linell to the world's attention, however little that attention has been solicited. (text RA)
