Fortunately I don’t rely on gimmicks to officiate memorable weddings 😆
The wedding industry in Las Vegas is getting ‘all shook up.’ The licensing company that controls Elvis’ name and image, Authentic Brands Group, sent cease-and-desist letters to multiple chapels to stop them from using the musician’s likeness in their themed ceremonies.
The order could put a significant dent in the city’s wedding industry, which generates $2 billion per year. Many chapels say they are only just recovering from the pandemic. The crackdown comes as the June 24 release date for director Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic gets closer.
In the letter, dated May 19, the company said it will stop unauthorized use of ‘Presley’s name, likeness, voice image, and other elements of Elvis Presley’s persona in advertisements, merchandise, and otherwise.’ The letter also said ‘Elvis,’ ‘Elvis Presley,’ and ‘The King of Rock and Roll’ are protected trademarks.
