I know this is so silly because succulents are supposed to be the plants you can’t kill, but… 🤷‍♀️ they’re in a room where the blinds stay closed, so they didn’t get enough sunlight. Solution- I replaced them with faux succulents that I won’t have to worry about. Cheers! 🌵

Throwback to where this all began…

I got married in Mexico in 2016. I was told by the resort’s florist I couldn’t have the flowers or colors I wanted, so I decided to make my own arrangements.

I chose bright, bold colors that complimented the tropical environment and popped against the ivory dresses. I had so much fun shopping for flowers and arranging each bouquet. The real perk was I packed them in a suitcase, arriving completely unharmed and impervious to the heat of the day.

Hi, I’m Leah! 👋🏻

I’m the owner of Faux Floral Rentals, and it’s been a minute! Quick life update- I left teaching after ten years and I got a new job in academia! I traded in the babies for the big kids 🤓

With that said, Faux Florals is still up and running, my side hustle and my creative outlet. And while I love working with couples to create their wedding florals, I also love the every day application of flowers- birthday bouquets, house warming gifts, and holiday arrangements.

Teacher Appreciation Week 💕

Copycat Commission 👯‍♀️

I was tasked by the beautiful bride to recreate an important part of her wedding day, not necessarily an exact replica, but rather an encapsulation of the essence of her bouquet. Specific choices were made to acknowledge important people in her life, and her floral decor felt more than an obligatory part of the preparations. I was honored to be able to bring back a piece of her special day, something she will hopefully cherish alongside the memories of her wedding.

Okay, now it’s Christmas time! 🎁

Faux garland is a simple way to create cozy winter vibes inside. This lovely Angel Pine & Pinecone garland went well with my existing decor and tied all my spaces together!

🎄 Mantle- mix of pine and eucalyptus for a rustic feel.
🎄Bar- pine sprigs tucked on the shelves and displayed in the decanter.
🎄Bookshelf- draped with the garland, and the sprigs are stuck in the ends.

Running a business primarily through social media is hard. With all that’s going on in the world, with loss after loss, it seems trivial to worry about my social media presence and frivolous to post about floral arrangements.

I feel like my creativity is directly related to my mood and feelings of happiness and joy (similar to the excuses I make for not exercising). I’ve had a task list a mile long and an exciting project on my plate for weeks now, but my mental state seems to inhibit my physical action.

Additionally, as I sense my teaching career transitioning, I feel a mounting pressure to make this passion project a viable, income producing business, an outcome I ultimately wanted with a timeline I did not. A wise friend said I can maybe have both- a side hustle that brings me joy with a job that fulfills me professionally.

So with my rambling concluded and my social media hiatus at an end, I am now refocusing in an attempt to find more joy in the process rather than in the goals I achieve and the ends I reach. Instead of waiting for joy to strike to create, I am letting creativity bring on the joy.
