Some more from early last week! I must say I been neglecting to check out some of the local restaurants and bars downtown. I appreciate for recommending this place not just for the aesthetics but also the array of food options and good vibes 😊

A few weeks ago, my long time friend John Jackson surprised me when he said he was coming to Minnesota for a few days. Given everything happening with COVID, I didn’t expect anyone to be pulling up anytime soon. As an LA based urban planner, he’s gotten to know the twin cities through his companies project with Still with everything that’s happened following the death of George Floyd, he was insistent to come back on his own, and see what’s happening on the ground. With safety still strongly in mind, I was happy to take him around the area, and show the real Minneapolis. While I could tell his heart was heavy by how things here have visibly changed, he left inspired to continue his work in planning conscious of the need for more Black minds in the field. I expect to see him more in the Twin Cities in the near future bringing positive change. @ Minneapolis, Minnesota

Wasn’t too much of a fan of all the isolated booms and pops going around the cities over the last month since the uprising. A lot of anxiety to come from it especially with a few gunshots and loud racing in the mix. For a moment tho I did allow myself to appreciate it a little from the balcony. Minneapolis was definitely not playing around this 4th of July. Hopefully we can get a little more peace going forward 😬

My hope is to eventually get myself to attend the events happening out here with my camera. This has been a particularly difficult week for me mentally, yet in the midst of that I still keep my eye out for shots while on the move. The whole city is just surreal to go through whether it’s national guardsman, tanks, blocked off roads, demolished or boarded buildings, you name it. It’s numbing at times, but more than anything I’m glad to see a lot of examples of resiliency in the community. We will get through this, but the question remains on how much can actually change? We will have to wait for that part.

Decided to give the porch photo trend a go this past weekend, and overall it was just nice to finally see some good friends IRL, and catch up on where we are in these crazy times. As you can see, these two are expecting their first child, and I can’t even imagine the stress they’re under, but from what I seen they seem to be doing good together in quarantine. Can’t wait to meet the new edition to the crew! 😍

Dua Saleh/Rachel Nichols 2016 .
A few years back, I put together an audio visual project that featured a group of community members who were active in social justice causes in the twin cities. At the time, This was following the death of Philando Castile in which resulted in a number of protest around the area. A few of the individuals interviewed gave their first hand reaction in the days that followed, and the impact it had on their own lives. Feel free to check this out linked below

K2theillest (2010)
It’s kind of wild going back and re-editing some of my first shoots from 10 years ago. This was when I was still living in Nebraska, and hooked up with a couple music artist friends to do promo for their projects, including Keives who we did a few different shoots while I was out there.
