Why would I spend time away from the flowers to tend to these feathered friends?
🐣Pest management - Although my hens don't live with the flowers, they keep the general population of slugs and snails lower, keeping my leaves free of bites and holes.
🐣Compost - Spent straw from the coop goes into the compost pile to mature, then gets added to flower beds after a few months. Chicken manure is very high on nitrogen and is a great addition to the garden after it is aged. Eggshells also do garden magic!
🐣Weed eaters - Instead of putting weeds in the compost, I feed them to the girls! It's a perfect cycle where I turn something we DON'T need into something we DO need.

Creating this woodland arch was such a pleasure. Everything you see was locally grown and there is no floral foam or plastic in this construction. I used recycled DVD stands for the armatures! It is part of my mission to show people that the floral industry does not have to be a wasteful space. You do not have to choose between beautiful work and sustainability.
