She’s wearing a dried bear grass skirt. To be honest, the ‘skirt’ is from a previous fresh tatami design. I love how it dried naturally curling downward over time. It gave me an unexpectedly great opportunity to use it again.. and again. Does it indeed get better with age?! Well yes, sometimes.

Using one of my favorite materials again, wood edgeband. After a soak in water even the wider sizes become very pliable and are quite sturdy.

Here we are, the festive season is in full swing. Ornaments are out and ready to design. For this arrangement I chose a less traditional color scheme. Why not go beyond the expected red/green?
Continuing using the tatami method that I learned during master class. This one is done with bamboo leaves.
The richness of fall colors before we move into winterly decay. For this arrangement I dried palm inflorescence to complement the brown tones of the season. Also the faded tips of the papyrus provide great texture. Using parts of a palm and papyrus might not be the obvious choice when looking for autumn designs. After looking closely at all parts of plants I ‘m always surprised what I can find. Nature truly provides without fail.

This was my submission for the program. My chosen theme was “wave”. To evoke a feeling of movement and dynamic lines I dried and painted Strelitzia (bird of paradise) leaves. I love how they contort as they dry.
Cleaned twigs to create this structure. As most of my creations, this one can be reused many times. It is well worth the time and care that goes into making such vessels.

Nasturtium is a great cut flower. Easy to go pick with the kids and bring home for Mother’s Day.
The last of the Acacia pycnantha (golden waddle). I removed most of the leaves to dress it down and give it a cleaner look. Simple and bright.
2x3; two asparagus fern shoots and three plumbago blooms. These minimalist and totally unplanned arrangements are my favorites. They grow out of a distraction from what I was actually doing. my jam!
After the rains this winter we have an abundance of weeds along the roads. Why not use them for their texture before they dry up.
Sewing is one of the many techniques florists use. For this ‘bowl’ I used tips of the bottlebrush. Thanks to sewing they are very secure and last a long time even when dried. Reusable and even compostable ♻️
I took a while off. Just realized that this post jumps from Christmas straight into Spring. That’s a leap!.. and there have been a few lately. Out of all of them jumping into Spring with flowers is definitely a good one. renew..rebirth..hope..spring

Poinsettia plants come in various colors besides the traditional Xmas red. Using them in a mono botanical table arrangement showcases the beautiful color variations. Poinsettia is a great choice as a cut flower for your holiday decor or as a gift.

Making your own flower ‘container’ always creates something unique and far more interesting. The structure can be reused many times just like any other vase. The time it takes to build it is well worth the effort, don’t you think?

Freestanding handtied design, again. It takes skills but is very fun when the arrangement just standing on its own. I always put in an extra effort to make sure it’s very secure and will last at my clients office. Nothing is just propped up for photo’s sake. Taking pride in solid craftsmanship is very high up on my list. No rushing or shortcuts is the luxury I give myself.

sweet huckleberry + gloriosa. My favorite greenery and flower combined. The Gloriosa is like a mysterious sculpture to me. Delicate, expressive, sensual, feminine, intriguing, fleeting, evocative… so many words to describe her beauty. I’m just in awe of her.
