The Fall Dance is coming up! Be on the lookout for these flyers around town! It will be on November 12, 2022, and dancing will begin at 4 PM. If you would like to come earlier to run through some of the steps beforehand, then I will be there to help you! :)

The dances have also been picked! So if you want to have a good idea of what kind of dances that will be performed, here they are:

Virginia Reel
Marie's Wedding
The Duke of Kent's Waltz
Oh, Susannah!
Golden Slippers
Heel and Toe Polka
Spanish Waltz
Boston Tea Party

If there is time, we will also incorporate some others, or even repeat some crowd favorites!

There will be a break halfway through the evening to eat supper, so please bring a potluck dish!

Also, formal attire is encouraged! Since the theme is Autumn, wear autumn colors!

You do not need to buy tickets to come, but there will be a donation box there. All the donations given will go towards Diesel and his fundraiser.

As always, reach out if you have any questions! I can't wait to see you all there!

Some dances that will be called at the ECD events will be in a standard line formation, like the one shown in the video below. It's easy to remember - boys on one side, girls on the other, and stand right across from your partner!

Some standard line formations will have a "head couple." The head couple will be the ones performing most of the movements at first, and then when the couples progress in the dance, there will be a new head couple, and the previous head couple will move to the bottom of the set. This gives every couple a chance to be the head couple!

The dance below is called, "Boston Tea Party." This is a simple and popular one that is a crowd favorite, and incorporates the movement of the head couple going through the line. Check it out, as it will be one of the dances that will be called in the upcoming November dance event!!

See you there!

Here's a popular barn dance that goes to the well-known song, "Oh, Susannah!"

This incorporates a move that will be important to know in English Country dancing - a left and right grand. Like how the caller explains it in the video, you start by grabbing your partner's right hand and pulling them across, and grabbing the person's left hand behind them, and then pulling them across, and you continue pulling by right hand, then pulling by left hand.

Another important thing in this dance that you will see a lot in the dances is a promenade handhold. This is where the you stand side by side with your partner facing the same direction, holding right hands with each other, and left hands with each other.

The rest is pretty simple!!

I'll post more tutorials soon!

Hey everyone!

I'm excited to announce that there will be an English Country Dance on November 12 at the Tiger Den in Lewellen. No experience is required, as all the dances will be taught that night. Just come with your friends and family! Some of the dances that will be called are:

Marie's Wedding
Virginia Reel
Boston Tea Party
Duke of Kent's Waltz
Golden Slippers
and Heel and Toe Polka!

The theme is "A Night to Fall in Step," so come in fall/autumn colors! Please keep attire appropriate and respectful. It does not need to be formal, but I always encourage dressing up!

This is a potluck as well, so bring your favorite potluck dish as there will be a break halfway through the night to eat.

If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a message, and I will be happy to assist you!

I look forward to seeing you all there!

Hello everyone!

Welcome to A Moment In Apricity, an events page that was created to share information about special events, such as English Country Dancing (ECD), stage plays, and other fun activities. Our goal is to create moments of "apricity," which is the feeling a person experiences when they feel the warmth of the sun in the winter...now, who doesn't love that?! 😊

Our events will mostly consist of English Country Dances, which are traditional dances similar to the more well-known American square dancing. Simply put, they are patterned dances that incorporate figures and moves from different cultures all over the world. All dances are taught and called before hand, so no previous dancing experience is necessary! All that's required is for you to bring your two dancing feet. (Or your two left feet - we don't exclude those. 😉)

Most dances will be themed, so it is encouraged to dress formally and appropriately for the occasion! If you enjoy the dances, a donation would be much appreciated so that we can continue them.

As for the stage plays, they are a work in progress that will come in the future. The idea is to recreate fun and popular classics in either their true form, or a shortened version. They will also be open for anyone to audition for!

I hope that this will bring much excitement and joy to the community, and if anyone has any questions about any events, please don't hesitate to reach out!

I look forward to meeting everyone and starting these string of events!

Until then!

Ana
