Joel Isaac Black or Mister Hazy Pockets (as his faithful converts know him) is first and foremost a soul-man. He is a dance music deejay of wide renown, an electric presence, an old-soul music preacher inviting you to the kingdom of heaven in the kick drum. He is a grinning cowboy, sometimes a wizard, but perhaps most importantly, a gentleman with a deadly instinct for turning a party on its head
and putting pep in the step of the stiffest statues in the room.
• Hazy Pockets means select cuts of sublime acid- funk-liquid-disco-boogie, robo-sleaze, and icy-hot body-beat, a glorious romp delivered with subtle winks and deliberate bounce...with an altogether human funkiness shaking it all loose. •
Joel was born in Texas to a blues musician father, harmonica and swamp guitar his lullabies. Already a veteran live musician as a teen, he moved out west to L.A, working first as a rock ’n’ roll drummer, and later a studio owner and producer, Joel continued to chase that certain guttural, soulful sound he was introduced to at an early age. Arriving in Berlin, re-baptised at the discotheque, he is still seeking those uplifting, funky moments to this day, albeit in maximal dance floor form. Technicolor savants, deviant thinkers and audio- eccentrics sprinkle the Hazy Pockets universe. It’s a music-philosophy driven by a profound respect for the momentary fantasy of the dance floor married to the fanatic mechanics of daring mixing, outside logic, and gleeful anarchy. We mean rock ’n’ roll rebel- beat disco ecstasies, deejay music with outlaw intent asking you to join the posse....from dawn-patrol to high-noon, and the good guys are shaking their ass off into the sunset.
