This 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 425 Convertible was driven by Ed Foster for over 15 years as the driver for the Grand Marshall in the Harmony weekend parade. This year we are honored to announce that Mr. Foster will be our Grand Marshall for the 2023 Harmony weekend parade. Ed, married to his wife, Deanna, for 59 years have been residents of Harrisville since 1984. With three MSU degrees 1960-1968, he has been both a teacher and administrator for over 40 years in several cities across Michigan, as well as Alcona Community. Mr. Foster served as the vice president for the Alcona humane society, The Harrisville business association as treasurer, Haynes Township tax board, Huron shores wine and food as treasurer, and treasurer for the Alcona County chamber of commerce to name a few. Presently, he is chairman of the Alcona County library system, treasurer of the Harrisville lions club, treasurer of Harrisville united Methodist

In recognition of Mr. Foster’s endless contributions and service to the Harrisville and Alcona community, it seemed only fitting that he should be selected, finally, to now carry the banner as Grand Marshall. Thank you all who answered the call for the consideration to select Ed Foster.

The Harmony Weekend Parade is seeking a grand marshal!

As the saying goes, everybody loves a parade, perhaps none more than the person who is honored with the title grand marshal. But what does the title mean? What are they marshaling, and what’s so grand about it?
The first Grand Marshal dates back to the first Rose Parade in 1890 when parades were much more about horses than about floats plastered with Paper Mache. It was common for the equestrian units to have several marshals riding up and down the parade route to keep every man and horse in line. Eventually, the Tournament of Roses organizers decided they needed a grand marshal to kind of marshal them all. In time, the Grand Marshall became more of an honorary position which were usually individuals who were significant in their particular world…presidents, astronauts, veterans, sports figures, and movie figures. Once a thankless job to organize men on horseback, the title of grand marshal today is one that’s all about thanks. Thank you for your service, contributions, or legacy left behind.
So, put on your thinking caps and help us find that special person to represent the city of Harrisville and Alcona County!
No horseback experience necessary!

WELCOME TO THE HARMONY WEEKEND PARADE PAGE!!

THE PARADE IS ON! September 3rd at 1:00pm line up on 6th street by 12:30 We will start by saying, huge shout out to Sandy Mendyka for her fabulous work running the parade for the past five years. She did a fabulous job and a job much appreciated. We were sorry to see her go, but then came, “Who will be the next in line to take over?” After much thought, and prompting that we both received from some of the locals, we decided that since the other was willing we would jump in and give it a shot!

As soon as we receive approval from the City Council to use Main Street, and we hope we do, we will have further information with details on how to get involved. Many of you are already familiar with the structure of things so our intentions will be similar to the previous years as to how things will be conducted.

We are very excited to take on this new adventure and look forward to having you all back this year!
