We did a preview run yesterday of the Moreau Half course and it did not disappoint!

Moreau Lake State Park is looking stunning right now and the trail is very dry. The course is, however, buried in leaves so we will see whether the leaf fairies show up this week.

It is hard to believe but in less than two weeks on November 2nd the 5th annual Moreau Half will take place. Check out the picture of the socially distanced and masked start of 2020 (Greyhound wave).

One of the main reasons we at Mountain Dog Running started this race was to provide true trail running opportunities in the capital district. It has been gratifying to see more and more people running on the trails of Moreau year long both in the woods and on Strava.

As usual we will have a post race BBQ. This year we have two sponsors providing non-alcoholic beer Athletic Brewing Company and regular beer SingleCut North & Side Stage Tap Room. It should be a great celebration.

If you aren't up to running the whole thing, we do need some sweepers to run sections of the course and pick up flags after the runners pass. The Buck 50 is a remote 50k trail race that climbs 9000ft, summiting 4 of the major peaks surrounding Lake George.

Due to the challenging nature of the event, we are requiring entrants to have previous trail-ultra experience to be admitted.

The 2024 Buck 50 will be held on October 5th and registration is opening on JULY 4TH 2024 at 10am!

There will be 60 slots available and runners will be required to provide a recent ultra finish to be accepted.

The Buck 50 is a 50 kilometer trail race on the shores of beautiful Lake George, summiting 4 peaks and climbing 9000 ft. The course follows rugged and remote singletrack through some of the most stunning scenery in the northeast.

The Death by Staircase Trail Running Festival Is coming up on June 8th!

This is a unique event that can be experienced in many different ways so I wanted to outline some of the great ways to participate.

- Join a team! Join a team with some friends and cheer, rest and refuel while your teammates are on the course. This is a great way to get a quality workout in or a casual day on the trails with great company and food. We would love to see more teams participating, it is truly so much fun to race this way!

-Run a solo event! In either the 6 hour or 12 hour event, you can grind out a truly hardcore trail run (same elevation per mile as Manitous Revenge 50 miler). But you can also get in some miles in the morning and take a nap or go for a swim at the beach before getting back at it! Enjoy it at the pace you want!

-Do a Fun Run! The Fun Run is a great way for a newer trail runner to try and run a few laps. Fun Runners can run up to 3 loops with no start time or total time restrictions. We have even had runners show up at 5pm after running other races to get some extra miles in!

-Volunteer! There can be a lot of moving parts in this race and we always need more volunteers. The unique thing about this race is volunteers can get the opportunity to run a few laps of their own! The More volunteers we get, the more we can enhance the runners experience, and the more we can give volunteers some off time for such a long event.

It was a tough year with blowdown and a wet course but the runners triumphed as usual, Including the women's course record by Erin Rasco at 1:1716.
